Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first-born son Archie is celebrating his second birthday on May 6, with members of the Royal Family already wishing him a happy birthday on social media.
With Meghan, Harry and Archie now living in California, the couple will be celebrating his big day in a much sunnier climate and reportedly with the Duchess of Sussex’s mother Doria by their side.
It’s believed Meghan will follow her own personal family traditions for Archie’s second birthday, including some sweet surprises which have been passed down from her mum Doria.
Meghan wrote about the traditions on her now defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, saying she likes to “set goals” on birthdays.
Meghan said a birthday is an individual's "own personal" New Year and is a “time for growth”.
Past goals included "more surprises, more opportunities to grow and more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes," adding that she always looks for "more inspiration."
According to reports, Harry and Meghan celebrated Archie’s first birthday at their home in Montecito last year and gifted him with a cake smash, where a one-year-old gets very messy with a cake and a professional photographer captures the sweet moment.
Brittani Barger told the Daily Star: "It's a big American tradition for the first birthday. The baby gets his or her own little cake that they can literally smash into.
"It's an adorable moment, and families get a lot of cute photos."
Archie is expected to spend the day this year with Harry and Meghan at their fabulous hillside estate in Montecito, near Santa Barbara. “Archie’s grandmother Doria [Ragland, Meghan’s mother] will be there, but they’ll want to make sure he has a few little ones to hang out with as well,” says Katie.
If lockdown restrictions allow, Meghan’s longtime pal actress and singer Katharine McPhee could well drop by with her baby boy Rennie who she welcomed in February with her music producer husband David Foster.
It was David who rented his Vancouver island home to the Sussexes last year and Katharine later let slip, “My husband has a really beautiful relationship with Harry. They’re so cute, like father and son.”
