Dancing on Ice: Jason Donovan discusses show with Lorraine

Jason Donovan is an Australian actor and singer who is taking part in Dancing on Ice 2021. He played Scott Robinson in hit Down Under soap Neighbours which launched his careers after he joined in 1986. His character married Charlene Mitchell who was played by Kylie Minogue.

The on-screen romance helped boost Neighbours’ popularity in both Australia and the UK.

Donovan stayed with Neighbours for 20 years, leaving in 1989.

The star had already made the turn towards pop music, in the wake of Kylie.

His first single, “Nothing Can Divide Us”, was released in 1988.

Next up was a duet with Kylie called “Especially for You” which was released in December 1988.

The single spent four weeks at No. 2 in the UK and hit No. 1 in January 1989. It was the fourth-highest selling single in the UK in 1988.

After releasing two albums, Donovan went on an extensive world tour in 1990, dubbed The “Doin’ Fine Tour”.

He continued to act alongside his music career.

In 1991, Donovan starred in the restaged London Palladium version of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

After a period of time struggling with drug abuse, Donovan returned to the London stage in musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 2004.

He also tried his hand in reality television, taking part in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2006.

He went on to Strictly Come Dancing and now Dancing on Ice.

Donovan has continued to act and sing over the years.

The Australian star is worth $10million (£7.4million), according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Many fans of Dancing on Ice think Donovan’s stint on Strictly will have given him an advantage as he prepares for his first live performance tonight.

However, presenter Philip Schofield has spoken up about Donovan’s pre-show nerves.

“I’ve already had a phone call with Jason Donovan who phoned me and said, ‘mate do you think I’m going to be alright?’” Philip said on This Morning.

“I said, ‘you are going to be fantastic, it’ll be fantastic’.

“He, like everyone, is pushed into doing the show by his kids. They were desperate for him to do it. He’s frightened that he’s going to get broken, as is everyone but that’s the nature of taking part in Dancing On Ice, there is nothing else like it.

Dancing on Ice airs tonight at 7pm on ITV.
