Justin Bieber Opens Up About The Scary Details Of His Past Drug Use

Justin Bieber has been open about his past struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues in an effort to help those fighting similar battles. In a recent interview with GQ, the Grammy-award-winning singer shared just how dire the situation became. In the interview, the 27-year-old shared his new way of going about things, including his desire to help others who feel the way he once did.

“I don’t want to let my shame of my past dictate what I’m able to do now for people,” he told the outlet. “A lot of people let their past weigh them down, and they never do what they want to do because they think that they’re not good enough. But I’m just like: ‘I did a bunch of stupid s***. That’s okay. I’m still available. I’m still available to help. And I’m still worthy of helping.'”

When the interviewer asked him how he would have handled a lockdown situation five years ago, he opened up about what his former life really looked like behind the guise of money and fame. Between the drugs and constant partying, his routine started to threaten his life. His bodyguards started coming into his room every night to check his pulse to ensure he was still alive, Bieber told the magazine. Speaking of the pain he felt, the singer explained, “And I thought all the success was going to make everything good. And so for me, the drugs were a numbing agent to just continue to get through.”

Justin Bieber opened up about his marriage to Hailey Baldwin

Between the drug abuse and his mental health issues, Bieber revealed to GQ that he lost sight of his career. In addition to his telling magazine profile, the pop star took to Instagram in 2019 to share about his dependence on drugs and alcohol during his career. Citing his unstable home life as a child as the reason behind his struggle, People reports, Bieber started to use “heavy drugs” by the time he was 19. He also noted that he was “disrespectful to women” and “abused all of his relationships.”

“You see, I didn’t grow up in a stable home, my parents were 18 [and] separated with no money, still young and rebellious, as well. As my talent progressed and I became ultra-successful, it happened within a strand of two years. My whole world was flipped on its head,” the post read.

In the same post, he claimed that the saving grace for him came as a result of his marriage to Hailey Baldwin. After sharing about his canceled 2017 tour with GQ, he explained that his relationship with Baldwin has helped him regain his footing. “Before, I didn’t have that to look forward to in my life. My home life was unstable. I didn’t have someone to love. I didn’t have someone to pour into. But now I have that.”

After admitting that their first year of marriage was “really tough”, the singer shared that his faith helped him get back on track in his personal and professional life. Today, he’s committed to sharing his story and helping people in similar situations.
