Kate Garraway is back as a regular presenter on Good Morning Britain this summer as she steps in while Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid take their annual break. The 53-year-old presenter returned to screens after months of staying at her husband Derek Draper’s bedside, as he has been in hospital with the coronavirus since March. This week Kate took a short break to celebrate his birthday but was soon back to present the breakfast show alongside new co-presenter Alex Beresford.

Kate talked about the difficult milestone on air as she thanked her colleague Charlotte Hawkins for stepping in while she took time off.

“It’s very challenging, they’re [the kids] are doing brilliantly with it though.

“We just thought for us, we did it with Derek’s family as well, we managed to hook up technically and sing happy birthday. We just hope the love seeps through.”

Derek was initially in a coma after being rushed to hospital in March, but Kate recently confirmed that he was out of a “deep” coma and is now in a “minimal state of consciousness”.

However, Kate said that she was returning to work as she felt she had to “keep going so Derek has a life to go come back to”, adding on the show that nurses were putting the programme on for her husband in the morning when she’s on screen.

Kate has had a very long and successful career in television – so how much has she earned over the years?

Kate has a net worth of £1.5 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Her yearly salary is estimated to be £544,000, which is largely from her ITV work.

However, Kate has also taken part in reality shows as well as launched her own business over the course of her career.

Most recently, she won the hearts of the nation as she experienced life in the jungle in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2019.

The presenter narrowly missed out on the final, coming fourth in the nineteenth series of the ITV show.

She was reportedly paid between £50,000and £75,000 for appearing on the reality show, which saw her taking part in bushtucker trials and gaining many fans for her funny and easy going personality.

Her husband Derek regularly appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about how Kate was doing during the show as he watched with the family from home.

Kate married Derek, a former Labour political aide, in 2005, and they have two children together.

It was her second marriage, following a split from her first marriage to her former boss at ITV Meridian.

Kate has worked for ITV since 1989, starting as a production journalist, reporter and news presenter.

After a short stint at Sky as well as radio work, Kate joined GMTV in September 2000 and co-presented with Andrew Castle.

She has been part of the morning breakfast show ever since, in its various iterations which include Daybreak and now Good Morning Britain.

As well as her presenting work, Kate also took part in the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing, and was partnered with professional dancer Anton du Beke.

The pair finished in eighth place out of fourteen duos, despite receiving many low scores from the judges, as the public got behind the popular presenter.

However, outside of the television work the presenter also launched her own website offering special deals back in 2010.

Goodpass was designed to give discounts on restaurants, spas and holidays, and was set up by Kate and her husband Derek.

Garraway reportedly invested £100,000 of her own money into the Groupon-like business, which she then lost after the company failed to take off.

This Is Money reported in 2012 that the couple were having to lay off staff after it struggled in the economic downturn.
