‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ Spurred Half a Billion Tweets Since Show First Aired

The Kardashians have a storied history of breaking the internet, so it comes to no surprise that reality television’s favorite family has garnered half a billion tweets since “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” first aired in 2007.

Scandals and advertisements aside, social media became the place for the Kardashians to set the record straight on each unfolding episode. The sisters live-Tweeted each show from their personal accounts to clear up any misinformation or comment on the episode’s unfolding drama. Given “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” premiered one year after the invention of Twitter, the two went hand in hand for the last 14 years.

The show was tweeted about for the first time ever on Sept. 17, 2007. “don’t be surprised if i end up adding “keeping up with the kardashians” to my endless list of reality TV programs,” Twitter user richelle said.

Across the 505 million tweets about the E! series, about half went to Kim Kardashian according to Twitter’s global data from Oct. 1, 2007 to May 25, 2021. Though the other sisters have stirred up their own buzzy headlines, Kim has consistently caused the most fanfare. After all, her friendship with socialite-heiress Paris Hilton and the leak of her sex tape prompted her to be the de facto star of the show when the series first began. In total, Kim was tweeted about 211 million times.

Next in line is the baby of the family, Kylie Jenner, who  was tweeted about 111 million times. Though the youngest of the Kardashian clan, Kylie’s Gen Z-centric monopolization of social media catapulted her star image even without being a high fashion model like sister Kendall Jenner, who was tweeted about 64 million times. When she first broke the news of the birth of daughter Stormi, her Instagram post became the most-liked photo on the platform at the time. To this day, the post remains in the top 10 most-liked posts on Instagram.

In the final two spots, Khloé Kardashian was tweeted about 49 million times, while Kourtney Kardashian, the eldest sister, was tweeted about 25 million times.

Alas, the data did not specify the ranking of Scott Disick, Kourtney’s former partner and the father of her children. Fans of the show know Disick often served as Kourtney’s comedic foil and Khloé’s partner in jest. Out of all of the most engaged tweets about the show, one about Disick holds a top-five spot. “the best thing kourtney kardashian did for kuwtk was get scott disick in the show,” it reads.

“I hope Kylie Jenner never reveals she’s pregnant, and 18 years from now a fully grown Kiwi Jenner makes her debut on the KUWTK season 32 finale,” David Onda tweeted.

“the level of shade #kuwtk,” one Tweet captioned a video of the Kardashians impersonating one another.

Twitter user Diamond posted a TikTok recreating one of the many “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” fight scene among the elder sisters.

“When you realize Kim, Kylie and Khloe all just had daughters within 6 months of each other. Kris Jenner really just secured her coins to give us KUWTK the Next Generation. Ain’t no human alive that has ever worked harder than Kris J,” Twitter user steve. said reflecting on the entrepreneurial prowess of the Kardashian matriarch.
