Following weeks of singing Jacket Potatoes and Otters, this weekend finallysaw Rhino crowned winner of the fourth series of The Masked Singer.
While judges Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross had been sure that the mystery voice belonged to James Arthur, fellow judges Rita Ora and Davina McCall, alongside a whole host of viewers at home, were correct in guessing that it was Busted singer Charlie Simpson all along.
Speaking of his time on the show, the musician explained: “I was terrified the entire time. The thing I was scared most of was remembering lyrics. I often forget lyrics to my own songs on stage.”
But while he may have been scared of forgetting his own lyrics, 37 year old Charlie has spent much of his life performing to crowds after shooting to fame in his teens in 00s group Busted.
Alongside Matt Willis and James Bourne, the group had hits including Year 3000 and Crashed The Wedding before they disbanded in 2005.
Much to the delight of their fans, Busted formed the supergroup McBusted in 2013 alongside McFly and the band toured the UK before Busted went on to reunite as a trio.
But away from his time in the pop punk group, Charlie is a doting family man and married his wife Anna in 2014.
In 2015, the pair welcomed their first son, Arlo, together before welcoming a second son, Jago, in 2018.
In the summer of 2022,Charlie opened up about the “terrifying” moment that his son Jago was suffering from secondary drowning – a diagnosis which left the little one spending three days in hospital.
“He was rushed through to have CT scans and X-Rays and to our absolute horror, we were told that he had water in his lungs and was minutes away from pneumonia,” the dad of two wrote on Instagram.
As a solo artist, Charlie has continued to make new music and has secured two UK Top 10 albums with his albums Young Pilgrim and Long Road Home. His most recent release came in 2022 with the release of the album Hope Is A Drug.
While Busted may not have performed in concert together since 2019, it’s clear that Charlie has still remained close with his bandmates and they are often seen together on his Instagram.
In fact, when it was announced that Charlie was on The Masked Singer, fellow bandmate James jokingly did an unmasking of his own on TikTok where he could be seen taking a handbag off of his head.
However, Charlie isn’t the only talented musician in his family as his brothers Edd and Will are also singers and guitarists.
