Morrisons driver rescued from flood water in dramatic drone footage

A delivery driver trapped in his half-submerged van has been rescued from the rising floodwater.

Incredible drone footage shows rescue workers wading through the knee-high water towards the Morrison's van in flood-hit Fishlake, near Doncaster, South Yorks.

The clip shows the shocking extent of the flood damage in the village, where roads have turned into rivers and lush green fields have turned into lakes.

The pitches and greens at Fishlake Cricket and Bowls Club are completely flooded.

Stranded villagers were told it will be 'weeks not days' before they can return to their homes.

A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: "Residents who have been badly affected by flooding in Fishlake are not advised to return home just yet.

"There is still a lot of deep standing water in the area present significant safety risks.

"The advice from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue is that where you can not see the ground it is unsafe to walk or drive.

"The advice from the Environment Agency is that despite there being a pumping strategy in place, recovery is expected to take weeks not days."

Some 34 flood warnings remained in place across the country, in which 16 of them are for the River Don,which runs through Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham.

Five previous "danger to life" warnings for the river, including in Fishlake, have been downgraded, but authorities say there is still a threat posed to residents.

Damian Allen, chief executive of Doncaster Council, said: “Our services are working around the clock with the local community to ensure that our residents get the right support.

"Despite an encouraging reduction in flood warnings, this doesn’t mean the danger is totally gone and we’ll keep working hard to get to any affected areas as quickly as possible.

“We have nine advice and recovery hubs that have been set up to provide information and guidance on your next steps.

"Our dedicated staff will support people and put them in contact with any services they need.

"We also have teams working directly with those affected by the floods."

Hundred of people have evacuated their homes since the flooding hit on Friday.

More rain is forecast in the coming days, with the Met office hoisting yellow weather warnings in place for much of the country on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
