A dedicated mum has revealed how she faced a huge backlash after mistakenly giving her children a Halloween 'treat' by mistake.

Mum Emily Massingill revealed how she accidentally bought 'Zombie Skittles' for her kids which include a sweet flavoured like "rotten zombie."

But after her children complained, she says she told them to eat them or they wouldn't get future treats, labelling them "ungrateful."

Her post revealing the hilarious mistake has gone viral, with more than 82,000 shares on Facebook, but many criticised the mum, from Texas, for insisting her children carry on eating the sweets.

Her initial post said: "If you’re feeling like a bad mom today, don’t worry – I fed these skittles to my kids for a solid month not realizing there is one skittle in there that taste like rotting flesh or 54 dirty diapers in the garbage.

"They kept telling me they didn’t like the skittles, and I told them to either eat them or they wouldn’t get any more candy ever again if they’re gonna be ungrateful."

But following a slew of furious comments, she added a follow-up, jokingly mentioning that she was going to create a therapy fund to help her children get over it.

She wrote: "Editing to add now this has blown up which is insane to me: I don’t give my kids candy EVERYDAY.

"But for a month, when they did get candy, this is what they got they only went through about 6 packs or so.

"Also, for all of you that say I’m a horrible parent and ruining my children’s lives, my Venmo is @emilymichellephotos if you wanna contribute to their therapy fund for later in life.

"They’ll need the best due to this incident, I assure you."

Her post was also shared on Twitter where it racked up 33,000 retweets and 267,000 likes.

One person blasted: "I- are we not gonna talk about how f***** up it is that they said they didn’t like them, and instead of not getting them she said they had to eat it or they would never get anymore candy?

"Even if it was normal candy, thats such an asshole move, and s***** parenting lmao."

Another person replied: "She could’ve just given her a different candy though.

"I mean we all have different tastes, it’s not about being ungrateful."

A third replied: "I saw those on sale last year after Halloween so I bought a ton of them not realizing that 1 in every 5 or 6 skittles tasted like spoiled soup.

"I feel bad for the kid, it's an honest mistake."

But lots of people saw the funny side of the incident, with one fellow mum writing: "Omg this is definitely something that would happen to me."

Another added: "Seriously this a real mum moment, I like to hear or read more stories like this, funny things real mums do."

One woman joked: "Hahahhahahahah omg I need to get a pack of these out my godson off eating too many sweets loool."

Zombie Skittles creators say: “Hidden beneath the candy shell of select pieces in the pack is a rotten zombie flavour that will reveal itself only once you've started to chew.

"It's an utterly disgusting taste experience that will elicit strong reactions from anyone and everyone daring enough to try it.

“Every palate will perceive the taste differently, but everyone will know it's 'rotten' when they get it.”
