A budget-savvy mum’s mini apple pie hack has been dubbed the ultimate family snack by home cooks after she shared the recipe in the hope of getting helpful hints back.
The mum, who is based in Toowoomba, Queensland shared a list of the snacks she makes for her family to graze on or take on adventures outside the house.
‘Monday is baking day for me. I make easy to eat, on the go, snacks for my partner to take to work and my two-year-old to eat,’ she said.

Her list included Vegemite scrolls, mini quiches, muffins, cupcakes and biscuits.
But the crowd-pleasing item appeared to be the mini apple pies, which she also shared a photo of.
‘Those apple pies look delicious, I will have to make them for my kids,’ one mum said on the post.
Others wanted to know exactly how to eat them.
‘For me, warm with cream because I’m at home with a microwave. For my other half he’ll have them cold,’ the original poster said.
The mum posted the list in hope of ‘other options’ adding she would make pikelets but they ‘never last’.
And people delivered.
‘I would do some sausage rolls and vegetable samosas,’ one mum said.
‘Broccoli and cheese scones are always a hit at my place,’ added another.
How can I make the mini apple pies at home?
INGREDIENTS
Puff pasty
Pink lady apples
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon sugar
METHOD
Grease a muffin tin and line each hole with pastry. Chop the apples to desired size and mix in a bowl with sugar and cinnamon.
Spoon the mixture into the pastry and cook at 180C for 30 minutes.
Others suggested breakfast muffins, zucchini slice and Weetbix slice.
While some mums said it is hard for them to go past banana bread when they are baking for their family.
One mum said making a double batch of pikelets might make them last longer.
‘Leave some out and hide some for next couple of days,’ she offered.
Dozens of mums dropped comments offering their advice on easy baked goods.
