Six ways to get good deals on strawberries ahead of Wimbledon | The Sun

GET that fruity feeling and enjoy the berry best of British.

While Wimbledon-goers will get through 166,000 portions of strawberries over the next two weeks, the rest of us can still get our fix of the popular red fruit even if we are not at the world’s most famous tennis tournament.

So if you are looking for strawberry deals this week, here is the cream of the crop.

COOL SAVINGS: Dip your spoon into a tub of strawberry ice cream. Classic Haagen-Dazs Strawberries & Cream, 460ml, is down from £4.50 to £3 at Morrisons.

Or you can save £1 on a litre of Mackie’s of Scotland Strawberry Swirl ice cream, now £2 at Sainsbury’s, down from £3.

TEA-HEE: At emmabridgewater.co.uk it is the summer sale, including a half-pint “seconds” strawberries mug down from £17 to £11. Not quite perfect, but still beautiful.

KEEPING IT CLASSIC: Do not let the strawberries-and-cream season pass you by. Asda is doing 454g strawberries and 300ml double cream available as a value bundle for £3.74.

JUICY COUTURE: Dress little kids for the season in a cute Pink Strawberry dress and bag, £6, from George at Asda. Or snuggle up under The Range’s Strawberry Fields bedding set, from £16.99.

GROW YOUR OWN: Strawberries grow very well in pots, window boxes and hanging baskets, so they can be grown in small gardens or even on window sills. It might be a bit late to plant from seed this year but if you can re-pot strawberry plants from your garden centre or supermarket, you could still get a sweet harvest.

PICK OF THE BUNCH: For the tastiest berries, pick them fresh from the fields. Find a pick-your-own farm near you at pickyourownfarms.org.uk.

You will pay for the weight of the berries — around £6 per kilo — and the price can include a fun day out with the family.
