WITH the arrival of cold and wet weather, it is time to make sure your motor remains safe and reliable.
Here are some easy autumn and winter car checks to avoid costly repairs or accidents over the coming months.
CAR CARE: Kwik Fit offers a free safety check on your car’s battery, wiper blades, windscreen washer and other parts of the vehicle.
There is no obligation to buy any products recommended. See kwik-fit.com/vehicle-safety-check.
TYRED OUT: Check your car’s tyre pressures regularly, as leaving them either over or under- inflated can cause unnecessary wear.
The AA’s tyre safety kit checks tread and pressure, and costs £3.99 from Amazon. Halfords also offers free tyre checks. See halfords.com.

PRICE OF ICE: Before turning the ignition on, credit provider Go Car Credit says to make sure your auto wiper control is switched off, as this could blow the fuse if the wipers are frozen to the windscreen.
Never pour hot or boiling water on to a windscreen, as you run the risk of cracking the glass.
DAYS LIKE FREEZE: Keep your cooling system from freezing by ensuring you have got the right mix of water and antifreeze in the radiator.
Usually, a 50/50 split will do, says comparison site Confused.com.
