But the 23-year-old, who started his own business aged just 14, kept learning his craft and has made a name for himself as a “social media Messiah”. After being mentored by legendary tech start-up investor Scott Warner, Cody branched out and set up Copped Media.

The marketing agency focused on niche clients, often with just a handful of followers, and used clever algorithms to get them noticed.

Cody, from California, won’t reveal exactly how this works or who his clients are but says that he can “guarantee” his clients will gain tens of thousands of followers overnight.

He said: “Some people say I’ve got the Midas touch but it’s more a case of lots of hard work to crack the market.

“It might look like we make people an overnight success from the outside but a lot of work goes into laying the foundations to build them up.

“Social media management combines so many things from content creation to marketing and jumping on trends.

“It’s not easy but it is also possible to make anyone a star. There’s so much money to be made out there – and a lot of the market remains an untapped resource.

“I’ve been very lucky to have great mentoring and hit the market at the right time.

“But there are opportunities still out there. I always say to my clients that they’ve got to trust me and everything will be okay.

“I don’t tell them the intricacies of my methods because I’d do myself out of a job. But I guarantee them that I’ll get them a huge social media following and I’ve never failed to deliver.”

Social media influencers have grown in power hugely since platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook have skyrocketed in popularity.

This has led companies paying thousands of pounds for a single post which promotes their products.
