Teenager told his mum has died in harrowing Snapchat message following hit and run – The Sun

A TEENAGER from Queensland found out his mother had passed away through a devastating Snapchat message sent by his cousin.

Trent Thomsen, 18, from Booval in Ipswich, received a message via the image and video sharing app from the family member last Sunday morning.

Trent was unaware of the passing of his “nice, caring and helpful” mother until he read the brief message – and learned she had been involved in a hit and run accident.

Speaking to the Gratton Star, the grief-stricken teenager said: “All she said was, ‘Trent, your mum died last night’ – that’s all she said.”

Trent's mother, Julie Thomsen, died after she was hit by a vehicle on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale between 10.30pm and 11pm on Saturday.

According to Queensland Police, Ms Thomsen was struck as she made her way back to a broken-down vehicle on the side of the busy highway.

But the driver sped away from the scene – prompting police to launch a manhunt for the suspect.

As yet, no arrests have yet been made.

Ms Thomsen’s sister took to Facebook on Sunday pleading for anyone with information regarding her sister’s death.

She also appealed for the driver involved to come forward and contact police.

Snapchat has become a popular social media sharing app popular with uses aged 13-17.

The news comes after the mother of a murdered London teenager told how she received a chilling Snapchat message from her son’s killer.

Ali Zahawy, 22, filmed himself mocking Yemi Hughes, the mother of Andre Aderemi who was murdered in Croydon, south London, in August 2016.

Mr Aderemi, 19, was chased around the Monks Hill estate by four men and stabbed 26 times in broad daylight.

In the video, the killer swears and says he is still locked up, before adding: "Still it could be worse – I could be dead".

Ms Hughes told BBC news of the chilling message: "At first I was really angry by the content of it. It was like he was mocking my son.

"Then I got really emotional – why should I see your face and not my son? Then I felt annoyed.
