Tesco and Wilko are selling mermaid themed Cornetto ice creams that taste of green tea

MOVE over unicorns, there's a new Cornetto ice cream coming to Tesco stores and this one is MERMAID themed.

The frozen treat is filled with matcha – a green tea flavouring – and raspberry ice cream that's been topped with raspberry sauce, candied blue starfish and silver ball sprinkles.

Even the traditional cone has been changed from its usual wafer brown hue to a pink colour for extra appeal.

Made by snack manufacturer Wall’s, the ice cream is wrapped in a holographic pink and blue wrapper that looks like it’s been made of mermaid scales.

The new treats will be available as 120ml single cones or a multipack of four 90ml ice creams.

Single cones will have a RRP of £1.20 each, while the multipacks are set at £3, which works out at 75p each.

Shops are free to set their own prices though, so what you'll end up paying might vary depending on where you buy them.

Tesco is selling them from March 2, 2020, while they'll hit Sainsbury's stores on March 16, 2020 – neither retailer has yet to confirm its prices.

But eager shoppers have already spotted them being sold in Wilko for £1.50 each for a single cone.

Instagram page KevsSnackReviews tweeted a picture of the frozen treat, much to the delight of his followers.

One person commented: "These sound delicious."

While someone else said: "Omg yes to the flavours – matcha!"

We've asked Unilever, the parent company of Wall's, how many calories each ice cream contains and we'll update this article when we know more.

UK shoppers will no doubt be thrilled by the new flavour after Wall's unicorn-themed Cornetto was only released in Thailand.

The UniCornetto is pink, purple and blue in colour and contains cotton candy and marshmallow-flavoured ice cream with strawberry sauce.

We couldn't find any other mermaid ice cream products being sold in major supermarkets.

However, Tesco sells these rainbow cones – made with candyfloss ice cream – for £1 for a pack of four.

To save cash, you could stock up on Asda's almost identical unicorn ice cream cones, which cost £1 for a pack of four.

Asda also already sells unicorn-shaped lollies.

Meanwhile, B&M is selling pink unicorn spread and it tastes of raspberries.
