Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s & Aldi extend Christmas opening hours – with 24 hour shopping

Supermarkets have been open throughout the pandemic, ensuring customers can get hold of all the groceries they need. With Christmas just a few weeks away, Tesco, Aldi, Sainsbury’s and Asda have shared their opening hours for those who wish to visit a store in the lead up to the big day.

Tesco

In the lead up to the big day, supermarket giant Tesco is helping its customers by extending their opening hours. 

More than 300 stores will be open 24 hours a day from December 14 to Christmas Eve with many other stores extending hours to be open from 5am.

There are currently a handful of stores across the country on trial for keeping them open 24 hours ahead of the Christmas period.

The retailer also recently released its Christmas delivery slots for customers wanting to shop online this year.

Opening times can vary between stores so it is always best to double check using Tesco’s store locator online tool which lists opening hours. 

Aldi

A statement on the Aldi website reads: “Good news everyone. In the run-up to Christmas Eve, we’ve extended our shopping hours from 7am-11pm Monday to Friday, just to make that whole Christmas shop a little easier for you.

“Of course, don’t forget you can check out all your local Aldi opening times online before you plan your visit.”

December 19 – 07:00 – 23:00

December 20 – 10:00 – 16:00

December 21 – 07:00 – 23:00

December 22 – 07:00 – 23:00

December 23 – 07:00 – 23:00

Christmas Eve – 07:00 – 18:00

Christmas Day – Closed

Boxing Day – Closed

December 27 – 10:00 – 16:00

December 28 – 08:00 – 20:00

December 29 – 08:00 – 20:00

December 30 – 08:00 – 20:00

December 31 – 08:00 – 18:00

January 1 – Closed

January 2 – 08:00 – 22:00

The statement added: “Please note that these times shown above apply to most of our Aldi stores but this may vary across Wales and Scotland.”

Sainsbury’s

Supermarket giant Sainsbury’s has also issued their seasonal opening hours.

In the lead up to Christmas, most stores will be open until midnight between December 21 and December 23.

On Christmas Eve, stores will be open between 6am and 7pm and on Christmas Day they will be closed.

The stores are open on Boxing Day and will open at 10am and close at 5pm.

On New Year’s Eve, stores will be open from 7am until 7pm and they will be open on New Year’s Day too with opening hours at 9am and closing at 7pm.

Customers can use their online tool to find out their local stores opening hours before travelling.

Asda

Some Asda stores are now open 24 hours and the supermarket giant website reads: “To find out your local store opening times please visit our store locator.”

For those wanting to order their shop online, Asda’s Christmas delivery slots are available to book now online with a delivery date between December 21 and 23. 

Customers will pay £3 for delivery on orders less than £40, and £3 for click and collect orders under £25.

Asda is said to be running reduced hours over the New Year festivities so customers should check their local stores opening hours before travelling.

All retailers have now issued their Christmas delivery slots online.

With demand high this year, customers are urged to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
