THORNTONS shoppers say they’ve been struggling for days to order Easter eggs from the chocolatier online.
The British chocolate maker keeps closing its website after reaching a daily limit for new orders.
Thorntons reopens its web store every day at 9am for customers, but it shuts once again as soon as it reaches a daily quota.
Shoppers on social media say this is usually within an hour of opening, with some complaining that they can’t even get on at 9am.
Brits are being instructed to stay home during the coronavirus epidemic, leaving many chocolate lovers hoping to buy their Easter eggs online.
Thorntons has closed all its UK stores in light of the crisis, but its website has remained open for business.
However, customers have taken to social media over the last few days to complain that they can't make an online order.
Thorntons has been posting the following message on its website: "Due to high demand, we have temporarily paused taking new orders today.
"We are taking extra precautions to keep our colleagues safe in the current environment, this includes pared back staffing levels to ensure social distancing is observed.
"We hope you understand and please re-visit at 9am tomorrow when we will be back online taking orders on our full range."
One shopper tweeted: "It's my Nanna's 98th birthday on Easter Sunday.
"Thorntons are her fave, really want to order her a personalised box of your chocs but your website constantly says this. How can I order?"
Another customer said: "Shop at Thorntons every year for my Easter eggs.
"Can't even get on their website to order. Tried four days in a row."
Another shopper asked: "When can we place an order please as have tried for two days now?"
Asking a similar question, this customer asked: "When do you think your website will be up and running? I'd like to order some Easter eggs!"
Another customer tweeted last week: "I was there at 9am this morning, you wasn't. Fingers crossed for tomorrow."
When The Sun checked today, April 6, Thorntons closed its website for new orders shortly after 10am.
Replying to one customer on Twitter, Thorntons confirmed it closes its website once it has reached an order limit for the day.
The chocolatier said: "Our teams are working to a specific order limit each day to ensure precautions are taken in our factories during the current climate.
"You should be able to place your order on our website again from 9am."
If you're able to get online, Thorntons charges £3.95 for standard delivery – although as this takes three to five days to deliver, and orders may be subject to delays, there is no guarantee your chocs will arrive before Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday falls on April 12 this year.
Thorntons is also offering next or named delivery for £5.95.
We've asked Thorntons for more information about its daily order limit and we'll update this article when we hear back.
Thorntons has over 100 shops in the UK.
It comes after Cadbury shoppers experienced similar frustration when ordering Easter eggs online after being placed in a digital queue.
If you're still looking for Easter eggs, and you don't want to visit your nearest supermarket, we've rounded up which online retailers are still selling them.
Our list includes Lindt, Cadbury and Hotel Chocolat.
You can also still buy them from Amazon Fresh, although there isn't much choice left.
