As governments place increasing pressure on citizens to stay home in order to flatten the curve and minimize the spread of coronavirus, individuals are coming up with novel ways to pass the time and stave off loneliness, from home workouts, to virtual happy hours, to cam shows.
And since meeting prospective new romantic partners has become all-but impossible in the era of self-isolation and social distancing, dating app Tinder has come up with a way for people to keep their flirting skills sharp while stuck in isolation.
Starting this week, Tinder will be opening up its Passport feature (which allows you to swipe right or left on people in different countries) to all users free of charge, meaning they can match with anyone, anywhere in the world. Users of the app normally have to pay for this privilege through premium services Tinder Gold and Tinder Plus, but from now until the end of April, Tinder is encouraging everybody to “virtually transport yourself out of self-quarantine to anywhere in the world.”
Shar Dubey, CEO of Tinder’s parent company Match Group (which also includes popular dating sites Match, Hinge, and OkCupid) stated in a memo that this would offer users “the technology to share, learn and listen to those that are experiencing this same situation in different geographies during an unprecedented period of isolation.”
With your potential dating pool now broadened to encompass the entire planet, you might want to make sure your profile pictures are on-point. Here’s our guide to putting your best face forward.
