When a tourist ordered a salad when they were hiking abroad, they never expected this dish to turn up.
They paid around £5 for the menu item, which ended up being a plate of chopped tomatoes with raw onions on top.
The bemused holidaymaker posted a picture of their “salad” to Reddit’s “sh*tty food porn” forum.
They captioned the image: “This salad for six euros after a long mudflat hiking tour.”
The post garnered 2,300 upvotes – and many were equally as confused by the basic dish.
Many commented on the photo, with some branding the salad “unacceptable” and “sadder than (their) lives”.
One responder joked: “When you order Caprese but they give you Crap-ez.”
Another said: “What a waste of money.”
A third wrote: “This is the worst thing I’ve seen on this sub. Literally my two most hated foods put together in a profane and disturbing way.
“I didn’t want my day to start out like this.”
And a fourth added: “Salad is an easy way for restaurants to make more money (cheap ingredients, simple to make), but that is a scam.”
Others had suggestions on how the basic dish could be improved with a little bit more effort.
One Redditor suggested: “Yeah they could've added some basil, mozzarella, seasoned it and served with some bread and then it would be much much better.”
Another said: “Honestly, some good olive oil, salt, pepper, and a few ripped pieces of basil and I would smash this. I love raw tomatoes.”
And a third added: “They forgot the cucumber and vinaigrette.”
