Universal Credit claimants could be eligible support to help with energy bills

Brits could be eligible for extra support on Universal Credit.

The UK has been crippled with rising costs following the increase of energy bills and council tax.

Now extra help could be a vital lifeline for those struggling with the rises as there are many extra discounts people could claim.

First of all, those on Universal Credit, Jobseeker's Allowance and Child Tax Credit are eligible for free school meals.

Although people who receive Income Support, the guaranteed element of Pension Credit and Child Tax Credit can receive it.

Those who get Working Tax Credit can also claim free school meals.

As well as feeding your kids, some Brits could get their council tax reduced.

Universal Credit claimants eligible could get a discount if they are the only adult in their home.

Also if every person in the home is a student or has a severe mental impairment, they will not need to pay any council tax.

The council tax rebate is being rolled out this month for the council tax bands A to D.

And new parents might be entitled to a Sure Start Maternity grant with a one-off payment of £500.

This has to be claimed within 11 weeks of the baby's due date or before six months after the baby's birth.

The government explained people can only claim if you and your partner receive certain benefits.

If you're expecting your first child, or multiple births (like twins) and have kids already you might be entitled.

Also those who are unable to pay their energy bills can check for grants as some suppliers are offering them.

You could contact your supplier and see if you're eligible for any discount.

Energy firms are legally required to try and help you pay back your energy bill debt so you need to ask for a review of how to pay.
