YASMIN BOLAND: The new Age of Aquarius

The new Age of Aquarius and what it means for you in 2021: This month Jupiter and Saturn will meet to make one magnificent ‘Christmas Star’. Top astrologer YASMIN BOLAND reveals the meaning of this celestial wonder

  • Jupiter and Saturn are moving from one zodiac sign to another simultaneously
  • Henry IV was on the English throne the last time such an event happened
  • Their ‘Great Conjunction’ takes place on December 21 – longest night of the year

For astrologers, the next few days mark an event of almost unique significance and rarity. The last time it happened Henry IV was on the English throne and we were half way through the Hundred Years War.

Up above in the skies, the great giants Jupiter and Saturn are moving from one zodiac sign (an area in the night sky) to another almost simultaneously. To have one of these planets switch signs is itself a big deal; to have two shift within days of each other is momentous.

On Friday, Saturn moves from Capricorn into Aquarius and Jupiter follows two days later. Their ‘Great Conjunction’ — when both planets ‘meet’ in the sky — takes place on December 21, the longest night of the year, when the two will look like one conjoined star, dubbed the Christmas Star by some astronomers and the Solstice Star by others. The last Great Conjunction in Aquarius happened in 1405, and the last time Jupiter and Saturn lined up in this same part of the sky, in exactly this way, was 800 years ago.

To astrologers, of course, this is more than a fascinating astronomical coincidence — it has direct implications for us down on Earth. As the planets travel through different zodiac signs, their energy changes and so too does their influence on our lives. Jupiter and Saturn, the lucky planet and the hard work planet respectively, are especially powerful in terms of our relationships, whether they’re affecting our love lives, finances or careers.

As they move from practical, earth-bound Capricorn to airy, liberated Aquarius, many astrologers believe we’ll at last feel the power of renewed hope and optimism in the world.

Even more significant, the two planets will ‘conjoin’ in air signs (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) for the next 200 years, signalling a new astrological era, which some are calling the new Age of Aquarius.

It’s important to know that the two planets have widely differing influences. While Jupiter is the planet of joy, freedom and adventure, Saturn is stern, restrictive and less benevolent in general. Where they appear in your chart gives you clues to the challenges and rewards of the year ahead. So what does it mean for you in 2021? Read on to find out…

GUIDE TO THE HOUSES

If Jupiter and Saturn are moving into your 1st House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to your appearance and image.

Treat yourself to a make-over this year, but listen if and when a significant other gives you feedback and don’t be over-confident with that new colour or wardrobe. If you need to, this is the year you’ll really get to grips with your weight, but don’t make it tougher by channelling Jupiter and overindulging at Christmas.

At work, you can impress the boss with your new-found diligence.

A positive attitude will get a much better reaction than behaving like dour, difficult Saturn.

If Jupiter and Saturn are moving into your 2nd House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to cash, property and possessions.

2021 will be a good year to take chances and seize opportunities. Jupiter will grant you good luck, even a windfall, as long as you appease Saturn, keep your head and maintain self-discipline. You will reap what you sow, so make sure you put in the spadework.

Value isn’t just about money, however, it’s about how you value yourself too. Your self-esteem will take a knock this year. Have faith in yourself as the same fun, attractive person you always were and you’ll emerge stronger than ever.

If Jupiter and Saturn are moving into your 3rd House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to family, social life and career development.

This year, you could hit problems in your relationships with siblings or neighbours. Whatever dispute you get into, avoid appearing arrogant or entitled. You’re not always right! A sustained effort to think of others and keep promises will lead to happier times.

Talking and listening skills are crucial for you this year, especially if you start a new job or find a new partner. You’ll love the difference an improvement in this area will make.

If Jupiter and Saturn are moving into your 4th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to all things domestic and to issues from your past. For you, 2021 would be a good year to move house.

But change can be disconcerting and Saturn’s influence means your fears will loom large unless you stay positive. The return of someone from your past may pose a challenge to your integrity — don’t be led astray! Your home can be wonderful as long as you do as you would be done by.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 5th House

Expect challenges and rewards: when it comes to creativity, children and love affairs. You may well feel you’re working too hard this year and failing to express your creativity. Consider whether it’s a good time to take a risk and change the balance by easing off the pedal.

Follow your dreams, but do it with your eyes wide open.

Meanwhile, enjoy the adventure of a new romance or revitalise an old one, and don’t let anxiety hold you back.

Act like a teenager again, even if you’ve been married for years. The more confident you are, the luckier you’ll get. If you’re in the right place for dating, it could be a great year for your self-esteem and an even better one for a serious new relationship.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 6th House

Expect challenges and rewards: when it comes to health, fitness and your sense of purpose in life.

A health crisis could either help you grow and leave you stronger or it could pile on the stress. Either way, trust your inner confidence to get you through it and don’t be afraid to lean on loved ones.

It’s a great year to get really fit. As with everything in life when Saturn and Jupiter are acting together, you’ll get big rewards for putting in the effort.

Overall, it’s a year to ask yourself important questions about what you want in life. Be disciplined. Saturn will not let you sugar-coat the answers, but Jupiter will give you the confidence to take a big leap.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 7th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to partners of all kinds — your spouse (and your ex), colleagues and business partners.

Chances are, at least one of your important relationships is going to cause difficulties in the coming months.

Don’t let these drag you down, but treat them instead as opportunities to grow and you’ll emerge happier and wiser. If your marriage is going through a rough patch, don’t be blind to your own faults or too arrogant to admit them.

Have faith in your ability to fix things — Jupiter will help you. Troubled relationships can crumble now, but good ones can go to the next level.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 8th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to sex, an inheritance and money in general.

Generous Jupiter might spell a renewed appetite for sex and perhaps a new lover. But you have to push past hard-nosed Saturn’s puritan instincts first. Tread the middle ground and enjoy the freedom without losing your integrity.

As for money, it may well be another story of extremes. Either you’re in line for new riches — or financial bad news. Future success relies on learning the lessons of the next few months to reap the benefit of enduring financial rewards

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 9th House

Expect challenges and rewards: when it comes to travel, studying and dreams.

At last, you’ll get back on the road, impossible as it seems right now. Travel adventures look like being a highlight of your year.

By contrast, if you’re headed back to school in any shape or form, perhaps to retrain or get new qualifications, you’re likely to find the books hard going. Mental and spiritual growth is a big theme this year, but you’ll need to put in the hours. No matter how slow it seems under Saturn’s restrictive gaze, each step forward takes you that bit closer to fulfilling your dreams.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 10th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to your reputation, career and how you make your mark on the world.

This is an interesting one. The conjunction of planets in Aquarius is telling you to be diligent and professional in order to achieve huge, sustained career success. Ditch your imposter syndrome — you’ve earned this. You might even become famous.

If you work outside the home, there will be a lot demanded of you this year. But professional achievement is not the only way to leave a legacy. Just as meaningful is your work as a parent or grandparent.

Don’t expect a smooth ride from close family, but draw on Jupiter’s tolerance and sense of humour to meet any obstacles.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 11th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to your friends and your hopes for the future.

A friend or several friends could be a source of sorrow or joy this year. Problems in your friendship group may be hurtful and long-lasting, but the harder you work to be a good friend — and the wiser you are about choosing your friends — the easier they’ll be to resolve.

Have faith in the cheerfulness Jupiter will bring and don’t let thoughts of abandonment overwhelm you. Seek out the people who make you feel good.

Meanwhile, make the most of your good luck this year — it will likely pile high for you.

Your hopes for the future may get a big boost from it.

If Jupiter & Saturn move into your 12th House

Expect challenges and rewards when it comes to the deepest, darkest, most sensitive part of your chart — your fears, your sense of spirituality and your secret or hidden enemies.

You have a major challenge on your hands, but it’s one with a significant reward at the end.

This is a year for working through your fears. Are you afraid to try something new in case you fail? Perhaps you’re fearful of committing to a partner, or walking away from one?

Now’s the time to face those fears and act. If you change your behaviour, you’ll change your destiny, too. Hidden enemies at work may prove a difficult problem to overcome, but use Saturn’s practical, calculating influence to winkle them out.

Do these things now. You’ll feel happier and brighter in no time.
