90s legend unrecognisable decades after Eurovision fame ahead of Hollyoaks stint

Eurovision star Sonia famously come second place in the song contest back in 1993 with her hit Better the Devil You Know.

The singer, now 51, was hugely famously in the UK and across Europe thanks to her string of hits throughout the 80s and 90s.

She looks far younger than her aged during a recent appearance on BBC Breakfast.

She appeared on the morning show arguing for the UK to host Eurovision, saying: "I'm absolutely over the moon, it's going to be fab.

"We tick all the boxes don't we? You've got to come and see our beautiful, beautiful city.

"We've got the arena. We've got all the criteria – the atmosphere, the buzz. It'll be one big massive party, it would be absolutely brilliant."

As well as appearing on Eurovision, Sonia became the first female artist to achieve five Top 20 singles from one album.

The pop legend also appeared with Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, Bananarama and Cliff Richard in the Band Aid II version of charity single Do They Know It's Christmas?

These days she still performs across the globe and and makes personalised messages for fans on CelebVM.

Sonia recently filmed a cameo for Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

A show insider said: “Everyone was so excited to have Sonia on set. A lot of the cast are big fans of her.”

Sonia’s appearance will air as part of a Eurovision-themed episode this week.

Fans will get to see her to belt out Better The Devil You Know.

The insider added: “When producers decided to do a Eurovision episode, they knew Sonia would be perfect as she’s a local girl and one of the the UK’s most successful entrants ever.

"And her performance was fantastic. It went down a storm. Fans are going to love it."

The special episode is being made to celebrate this year’s Eurovision being staged in Liverpool — just miles from the soap’s set.

It’s the first time it’s been in the UK since it was held in Birmingham in 1998.
