BTS’s latest single, “Butter,” has been blowing up the internet, and its music video has even broken records on YouTube.
While fans are enjoying BTS’s new work, not many people know what went on behind-the-scenes. In fact, for member Jungkook, preparation for the music video involved an extreme diet.
BTS and Jungkook are known for their love of food
The members of BTS have made it no secret they love food a lot. They often eat on their various reality shows and can be seen eating to celebrate special occasions, such as anniversaries or school graduations. Additionally, Jin even has a video series called Eat Jin in which he eats in front of a camera and chats with fans.
Jungkook has shown his love for food on many occasions. For example, he likes to, and during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, he learned to make pizza. Back in 2019, he also talked about how much he appreciates South Korea’s fast and inexpensive delivery system for getting him all kinds of food to his doorstep.
Jungkook did not eat much before filming the ‘Butter’ music video
To celebrate the release of “Butter,” BTS recently had a live stream with fans. The members watched the music video together and shared some behind-the-scenes secrets.
One secret Jungkook revealed was that he did not eat much before filming the video. “Really, for five days… I didn’t eat a single meal,” he said. “I only drank water for five days.”
The other members expressed some surprise at Jungkook’s revelation. J-Hope commented that Jungkook’s cheeks look like they have no fat inside.
Other BTS members have gone on extreme diets before
This isn’t the first time a BTS member has talked about going on an extreme diet.
Last year, BTS watched a video from when they first debuted in 2013, and the members shared they dieted a lot at the time. “We starved like crazy,” Jin said.
In 2018, Jimin also shared in BTS’s Wings Concept Book that he lost 15 pounds over the course of two years. At times, his diet got so severe that he had problems during dance rehearsals.
“I exercised for about two years, but this time I controlled my food intake and lost a total of 7 kg,” he said. “While dieting, I think I became very sensitive. When we had dance rehearsals, I didn’t feel hungry, but rather my body had no strength, so I would just collapse.”
Even when the other members showed concerns for Jimin, he continued to do the diet. He shared, “Jin would say, ‘Eat with me. What are doing [dieting] like this?’ But I told him, ‘No, I feel like I must do this,’ and I just kept on dieting.”
Other K-pop idols have shared similar stories about going on extreme diets before promotions. However, it’s important to note that anyone who wishes to diet should consult a doctor before doing so.
