Close friend and telly presenter Dawn O’Porter said she is convinced that the late Love Island presenter Caroline Flack is “in the air” and is “watching out for me,” writing love hearts in the sky.
She said that she saw the message “Be Kind” written in the sky shortly after tragic Caroline’s suicide and she now believes her essence resides in a small tree near her LA home.
How To Look Good Naked star Dawn, 41, revealed: “Caroline has been throwing signs at me like fireballs and I’ve been catching them all and clinging onto them tight.”
Mum-of-two Dawn, married to Hollywood actor Chris O’Dowd, said that she woke up one morning at their American mansion to find “total mayhem in our garden” with kids toys destroyed and thought crows were to blame.
She continued: “They dive-bombed us every time we walked outside and then I learned that crows have funerals. Apparently, when one dies, they throw an event.
“Which is f***ed up, because as they continued to draw my eyes to the sky, a plane started writing the words ‘Be Kind’ and a huge love heart, right above my house.
“I could not believe what I was seeing.
“Caroline’s death had kicked off a social media campaign called #BeKind; then there they were, those words being written above my house, when I was already having a straight-up weepy moment about her and had had a particularly bad night.
“And then her sending the crows in so I didn’t miss it. It’s all a bit obvious, isn’t it?”
She added: “I feel her in everything.
“More than I have any other person I have lost.
“I feel like she is watching out for me in so many ways, and also just watching me, which I love. I miss her so much.
“The heart lingered in the sky for ages. I stared at it in disbelief but also let the power of the words in the sky seep into me.
“She did it, I am sure of it.
“I winked at the letters as they disappeared, and gave her a smile, wherever she was.
“She is in the air. She is everywhere.
“Whenever I need her, I can have her, if I just stop, and breathe in deeply enough. I felt very calm for the rest of the day.”
In her new book, Life in Pieces, Dawn said that even though months on “things have got easier, the fog has lifted”, she is still struggling with her pain and sees a vision of Caroline every day.
She explained: “I can’t see how the anxiety will ever go.
“I wake in the night, every night, and the first thing I see is Caroline.
“It’s as if my sadness sits by my bed, staring at its watch, waiting for my eyes to open.”
Dawn also revealed that she nominated a palm tree at her LA home to be her late mum so that she could talk to it at times – and was stunned to find a new smaller tree had sprouted up beside it, which she believes is her best pal Caroline.
She added: “I thought of my mum’s tree. I looked out of the window and it was still there, but now it wasn’t alone.
“Another, smaller tree was growing right up alongside it. Where did that come from? An entire tree, just like that?
“I decided that the new tree was Caroline, and sometimes I go into the bathroom, and I chat to both of them at the same time. It’s nice.
“I recommend nominating trees as people that you have lost, because for the most part they don’t go anywhere, they continue to grow, and you can always rely on them to just shut up and let you be sad.”
