David Beckham begging for Knighthood after gushing post about Coronation

David Beckham has been accused of "begging for knighthood" after he congratulated King Charles III and his wife Camilla on their Coronation.

The 48-year-old headed over to his Instagram on Saturday (May 6) to share a string of images of King Charles and Queen Camilla as he paid homage to the royal event.

Alongside the heartwarming photos, David wrote: "Today our country comes together to celebrate the coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla @theroyalfamily."

But despite showing his solidarity to the Royal Family the ex-footballer set tongues wagging amongst his followers as they accused him of trying to gain a knighthood.

Heading to the comment section in their droves, fans shared their thoughts.

One social media user wrote: "Charles just give the man A knighthood at this point he's begging."

Another said: "You’re not getting an MBE. Give it up."

A third chimed: "B*** licking your way to a knighthood, one cringing post at a time."

Meanwhile, another added: "The whole country is NOT coming together. Do you live in such a “yes man” world that you’re completely unaware of the state of England & the op ions of its population??

But David wasn't the only one who received backlash from his followers as his wife Victoria was also critiqued heavily by fans.

Victoria, 49, took a similar approach to David's post and showed old pictures of her band the Spice Girls with King Charles.

She captioned the snaps: "From then to now! I have so many fond memories of meeting His Majesty throughout my career, and he is always so supportive and kind.

"Today is a truly historic day and I’m incredibly humbled to celebrate King Charles III and Queen Camilla as they embark on their new roles. VB."

However one of Victoria's followers cheekily remarked: "David's still not getting a knighthood."

While another joked: "Imagine Charles gave Victoria one, David would flip."

The news comes after fans complained that David shouldn't have missed out on the News Years Honours list in 2022 after captaining the Three Lions for six years.

Despite this, in 2003 the football legend did receive an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
