Elvis Presley died of a cardiac arrest on August 16, 1977. The King of Rock n Roll’s death was a tragic event for the world, as he was one of the most famous people on the planet. After the horrific event, people attended Graceland to see the King at his mausoleum – but some fans simply weren’t convinced.

Shortly after Elvis’ death there were a number of reports the King was sighted out and about, alive and well.

The first sighting came on the same day as his death, whereby somebody reported the King was spotted at an airport.

Over the years many more sightings occurred – but just one week after his death a friend of Elvis became suspicious about some of his missing items.

In 1991 Gene Smith produced a TV special which delved into the apparently faked death of the King.

The Elvis Files saw Gene interviewing many people closely associated with Elvis, looking for their opinions on the matter.

During the show Gene spoke to Maria Columbus, who was the president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club for 20 years.

Maria explained that she attended Elvis’ home, Graceland, a week after his death to visit his place of rest.

However the fan club president explained that something wasn’t right.

Things were even more confusing when she looked at the inventory of the famous estate, which was taken just as he died.

She told Gene: “When we got ahold of the inventory of Elvis’ estate… it felt wrong.”

Not only did it “feel wrong”, but Maria explained how there were a collection of things missing from the inventory – including a plane.

She continued: “There were so many things missing that should have been on there.”

Maria listed: “Elvis’ diaries, his journals.

“A plane was missing. He was listed as having six or seven pieces of jewellery – I’m sure you know Elvis had more jewellery than that!

“No photographs of his mother listed. None of his daughter.”

According to Maria he did own “quite a number” of photos of his mother and daughter – so where did they go?

Unfortunately, these things were never accounted for, leading people to believe Elvis took them with him when he “faked his death”.

Later in the documentary eyewitness Monte Nicholson explained he saw photos of Elvis flying away to the Bahamas in a helicopter.

He explained: “One day, [a colleague] showed up at work and had pictures of Elvis Presley getting in a helicopter which looked like a government helicopter. There were men surrounding Elvis that looked like government agents.

“The curious thing about this picture is this individual claimed it was taken several hours after Elvis allegedly died at Graceland.”
