The Met Police confirmed they would be taking no further action after claims he paid £35,000 for explicit photos, adding that "no criminal offence has been committed".
However with viewers now divided over the scandal, PR expert Rochelle White has shared her thoughts on what the BBC News reader should do next.
She said: "At the moment I feel that he will need to take a step back from the public eye and have to evaluate what will be the best thing to do.
"Ideally having a team around him to help manage his career who are used to working within crisis management is the next best step.
"Due to being so well known it would be wise to keep a low profile and create a strategy to support his next moves. Whether that would be coming out of the public eye completely or being selective in the interviews and statements he makes."
Rochelle added: "In regards to his career, I do believe time will tell if he could choose to retire from media and look at a different career path or if he wanted to, start something online and build his own brand."
She explained she also believes traditional media may not be the route for Huw's return, but added there could be space in the "non-traditional" sector.
Huw's wife has apologised on his behalf for the colleagues that were affected by the recent speculation of the identity of the BBC presenter.
The likes of Rylan Clark, Jeremy Vine and Gary Lineker all issued statements confirming they had no involvement after being inundated with messages.
