Ja Rule vs. 50 Cent: How Their Beef Started and The Internet's Divide Over Who Is the Better Rapper

Celebrities have been using social media as a way to keep fans entertained during the quarantine period. Many have done joint lives to promote current projects as they are unable to travel for promotion – and others have engaged in battles with colleagues in their fields with fans voting over who is better.

The latest possibility of musical artists to battle is between Ja Rule and 50 Cent, who have feuded for years. Ja initiated the competition and the internet is split over who would win. Furthermore, many are confused as to how their beef even began.

How did the beef between Ja Rule and 50 Cent start?

The rappers gave given different versions of the origin of their beef. According to 50, Ja was robbed by a friend of his. 50 detailed the fallout in his 2005 autobiography From Pieces to Weight.

“That’s how the beef originally started. My man robbed him for a chain, and then this guy named Brown came and got the chain back for Ja. Later, Ja saw me in a club with the kid who robbed him,” he wrote. “I went over to say, ‘What’s up’ to Ja, and he acted like he had a problem with me. But I’m not the one who robbed him.”

Though Ja later confirmed the robbery did happen, he denies that he ever saw 50 with the man who robbed him. Instead, he claims that the bad blood between them stemmed from 50 being snubbed by the Murder Inc. crew during a video shoot for Ja’s single “Murda 4 Life.” He also claimed 50 was pissed about Murder Inc.’s founder, Irv Gotti, passing on the opportunity to sign 50 to the label before his first album was released.

Ja Rule and 50 Cent have taken jabs at each other for years – Ja Rule bows out

The two have battled both in music and personally. They’ve released diss tracks aimed at each other and things have turned physical a few times when the rappers were in the same space. In 2000, they got into a fight at an Atlanta nightclub where they were both scheduled to perform.

Months after the Atlanta brawl, another fight broke out between the two of them in a New York City recording studio that left 50 with a stab wound. Ja and a friend were arrested for the incident.

Their feud appeared to die down around 2013, with Ja even admitting during an interview with Hot 97 that he felt he lost the battle with 50.

They ended up on the same flight the same year, with Ja alleging things between them were finally civil but the beef reignited when 50 dissed him on stage a year later.

Ja later revealed in his autobiography that he felt 50 played a part in a federal investigation that was brought against Murder Inc., which 50 denied. 50 continued mocking Ja on social media any chance he got, with one of his more recent’s being that he purchased 200 tickets to a Ja concert and posting about it on his Instagram account.

Whether a battle ever happens is up to 50 as Ja has challenged his longtime rival to a battle. Fans would love it, but many don’t foresee 50 ever agreeing due to him being so involved in television and movies now.
