John Lennon was married twice at different times of his life, though his marriage to Yoko Ono was best known. Before this, however, he was married to Cynthia Lennon, whom he met before he was famous. But what happened to Cynthia, after she and John broke up?
Cynthia Lennon first met John in 1957, when they were both attending Liverpool College of Art.
They began dating and in 1962 she became pregnant with Julian, who was subsequently born on April 8, 1963.
At this time, the band was only just making it big in the music business, but in the years which followed, The Beatles’ fame morphed into Beatlemania
Their relationship began to break down until John met avant-garde artist Yoko Ono and they began corresponding in 1966.

The pair struck up a romance and on returning from holiday, Cynthia found them together in the home she shared with John, which spelled the end of their relationship.
Speaking on NPR’s Fresh Air in 1985, Cynthia said: “I had seen her before; I mean I met her physically, you could say.
“She had been staying with John that night, and I came home and they were there, which was sort of curtains for our marriage, as far as all of us were concerned, really.
“But I had met her once before at a meditation meeting.”
In the same interview, Cynthia spoke about part of her life after John’s death, saying she could see a lot of the singer in her son Julian.
When asked if she found their resemblance “eerie”, she said: “Following John’s death, I had an experience of coming downstairs in the house I lived in North Wales, and [Julian] was sitting at a piano with his back to me, and he was singing a very soulful song.”
“And I had to do a bit of a double take; it was a very strange feeling, really spooky.
“But from that moment on, no. No, because Julian is his own man now.”
Speaking further about her son Julian, she said: “It was such a happy event and a joyous event that that boy has come out of a lot of tragedy and a lot of upheaval in his life and giving his heart and soul to something that I think is wonderful, which is music and its communication.”
Julian went on to follow in his father’s footsteps as a musician and is also a photographer.
As for Cynthia, she had various careers after divorcing John and, according to her obituary in The Guardian, she tried her hand at opening restaurants, writing books and music.
As well as this, she wed three more times: first to Roberto Bassanini, to whom she was married from 1970 to 1973; John Twist, from 1976 to 1983; and finally Noel Charles in 2002 until his death in 2013.
She died in 2015 after a short battle with cancer, with her son Julian at her side
Before she died, Cynthia was a devoted mother to her son.
After Cynthia, John married Yoko in 1969, but they separated in 1973 for a short period, during which time he began a relationship with Yoko’s personal assistant, May Pang.
In early 1975, John and Yoko got back together and remained so until his death in 1980.
