'Leave the Door Open' by Silk Sonic Wins 2022 Grammy Award for Record of the Year

Bruno Mars is a Grammy Award-winning artist, also earning recognition with Anderson .Paak for “Leave the Door Open.” After already snagging the Song of the Year Grammy Award, Silk Sonic received the 2022 Record of the Year Grammy Award.

The Grammy Award for Record of the Year is one of 2022’s most coveted categories

After a delay caused by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some of music’s biggest artists attended the Grammy Awards, taking place on April 3, 2022. Some viewers sometimes confuse Record of the Year vs. Song of the Year, with both categories nominating individual songs.

According to the Grammy’s website, the Record Of The Year Grammy Award “deals with a specific recording of a song and recognizes the artists, producers, and engineers who contribute to that recording, while Song Of The Year deals with the composition of a song and recognizes the songwriters who wrote the song.”

Nominees in the Record of the Year category for 2022 included “I Still Have Faith In You” by ABBA, “Freedom” by Jon Batiste, “I Get A Kick Out Of You” by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, “Peaches” by Justin Bieber Featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, “Right On Time” by Brandi Carlile, “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat Featuring SZA, “Happier Than Ever” by Billie Eilish, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X, “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo, and “Leave The Door Open” by Silk Sonic.

This award’s nominees spanned several genres and generations, as noted by presenter Keith Urban. The Grammy for Record of the Year went to “Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic, another award nabbed by the songwriting duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak.

Anderson .Paak approached the microphone with the award in hand saying that he and Mars were trying their hardest to remain humble “but in the industry, we call that a clean sweep.” To all the other nominees, these two shared their love and admiration, with the singers announcing that “drinks are on them.”

Billie Eilish won the 2020 and 2021 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year

Eilish and her brother Finneas made their mark on the 2020 Grammy Awards, taking home a handful of awards for their album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, and its song “Bad Guy.” It was this single that earned Eilish the Grammy for Record of the Year.

The following year, the songwriting duo snagged a second Record of the Year Award for their song “Everything I Wanted,” which they also performed live at the award ceremony. Other recipients of this title include Bruno Mars, Adele, and Sam Smith.
