Liam Payne in secret LA acting meetings after debut album chart woes

Liam Payne appears determined to see himself on the big screen and persue a career in acting despite a handful of unsuccessful auditions.

Earlier this week the One Direction superstar quietly met his acting agent in LA for talks about how to progress his career.

A source told Daily Star Online: "Liam is currently in LA having meetings with his acting reps about a career in acting.

"It's no secret he wants to try his hand on the big screen like Harry Styles did with Dunkirk – the right opportunity just needs to come along.

"In America Liam is signed to WME [William Morris Endeavor] which is the same agency who have Hugh Jackman on their books so he's certainly in safe hands."

Liam previously auditioned for directing legend Steven Spielberg for a role in his remake of West Side Story, though despite making it through to the final five actors vying for the part he didn't secure the role.

The move comes after Liam's debut album LP1 suffered dismal sales.

The record had been hoped to cement Liam as a successful artist in his own right after leaving 1D, however it struggled to make an impact.

LP1 only just scraped into the UK Top 20 before dropping out of the Top 40 in the second week.

In America the album missed out on the Top 100 after the first week of sales.

To make matters worse, Liam's latest single Live Forever also stalled when it came to both the charts and streaming platforms.

The track was released on December 6, however a music insider told Daily Star Online two weeks later how it hadn't even made the Top 200 songs being streamed in the UK on Spotify.

Speaking at the time, the source said: "Liam's latest single Live Forever hasn't made much of a noise.

"The track and video debuted on December 6 but despite all the hype around his album and a never ending promo tour around the world, it is yet to chart.

"Since its release Live Forever hasn't even made it into the Top 200 songs being streamed on Spotify in the UK or globally."

In August 2019, Daily Star Online revealed how Liam had enlisted Ed Sheeran to send him up the charts once more after his 2018 single First Time failed to make the Top 100 in the UK.

However, in another blow to the singer, the track Stack It Up peaked at No84 in the UK and only spent two weeks in the charts.

In comparison, Liam's debut solo single Strip That Down released in 2017 shattered records, peaked at No3 and enjoyed more than 24 weeks in the chart.

A rep for Liam Payne declined to comment.
