Paddy Doherty felt blessed to be alive before falling seriously ill with Covid

Paddy Doherty shared one final video to his Facebook page before being rushed to hospital with Covid-19.

The 61-year-old Big Brother and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star is seriously ill with double pneumonia and coronavirus.

Doctors were forced to put him on oxygen to keep him alive.

Paddy is known for being active on his Facebook, and one of his last videos before becoming seriously ill saw him share his gratitude for waking up each morning and being alive.

The boxer seemed in good spirits as he said in the uplifting clip: "I wish you all a lovely day.

"It has to be a good day why? Because it is a blessed day, and when you can wake up it is a blessed day thank God."

He added: "I want to wish you all a good morning and have a beautiful day.

"No matter what sort of a day it is, good day bad day, it is a good day, why? Because we're alive."

Paddy continued: "There's always someone out there worse than you.

"I am very honoured to say to you good morning."

The news of Paddy's illness was confirmed in Facebook posts from Paddy's son Simey and his wife Roseanne.

Simey Doherty wrote: "Can everybody please keep my father in prayer as I was just speaking to him and he has got double pneumonia also claw seen in the lungs and tested positive for Covid. He’s also on oxygen. Keep my father in prayer. [sic]"

Patrick is a former bare-knuckle boxer and was one of the Irish Travellers interviewed for the documentary My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

He won Celebrity Big Brother 8 and appeared in When Paddy Met Sally in January 2012 and on Celebrity Bainisteoir later that same year.

In 2016 the media personality appeared in a Channel 5 series about a Traveller life from the children's perspective.

Paddy has suffered heartache in the past as My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding stars and twins Billy and Joe Smith died in a joint suicide in 2019.

Doherty said on Facebook at the time: "RIP. Please pray for these two dear souls. God rest them in peace."
