Paul McCartney’s net worth soared by £20million in 2020

It may be more than 50 years since The Beatles split up, but Sir Paul McCartney's wealth continues to soar day by day.

The musician started his career at a very young age, meeting John Lennon and his band The Quarrymen at just 15.

They formed a close relationship, going on to form The Beatles in 1960 – alongside George Harrison and eventually Ringo Starr.

The band had worldwide success, becoming the world's best-selling recording artists of all time.

When they split up in 1970 Paul went on to have a successful solo career, which has added to his wealth over the years.

In 2020 alone, his wealth surged by £20million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2021.

Here we take a closer look at his net worth, and how he's earned his millions.

Paul McCartney is the UK's richest musician, with a net worth of £820million, according to The Sunday Times Rich List 2021.

This is an increase from £20million from the 2020 list.

This may come as a surprise, as many industries were impacted heavily by the coronavirus pandemic.

But despite the lack of lucrative revenue from touring, The Sunday Times notes that streaming figures hit record numbers.

Macca's rise to the top was helped in part by the release of his new music.

McCartney III was released in 2020, and it topped the Official Albums Chart.

It became the iconic singer-songwriter's first solo Number 1 album in 31 years.

His current wealth makes him the richest musician in the UK, and one of the wealthiest in the world.

His rise to the top started with The Beatles, which established themselves as one of the most successful bands ever, selling more than 600 million records.

They officially released 13 albums, plus three anthologies, and had a total of 21 Number 1 albums in the US.

After the Beatles went their separate ways in 1970 they continued to sell albums.
