Pete Doherty and Kate Moss portrait drawn using his own blood on sale for £5,000

A disturbing portrait featuring Pete Doherty and supermodel Kate Moss, drawn using Pete's own blood, has gone on sale for £5,000.

The artwork is believed to date back to around 2005, when the Libertines frontman and it girl Kate were in a relationship.

The gruesome painting was originally gifted to the current owner before Pete split from Kate in 2007.

But now, the 20 inch by 24 inch portrait is being sold by its owner through auctioneer Sworders of Stansted Mountfitchet in Essex.

The unique work of art is done with Pete's blood, however he also used crayon for his artistic endeavour.

While the portrait is a little abstract, Kate's head can be made out at the right hand side of the canvas.

Close by there is an inscription which reads: "Ray Heads the son."

The crayon-done portion of the artwork is a vase which has a darker figure coming out of it, thought to represent Pete himself.

This isn't the first time Pete's blood artwork has been sold, as he previously flogged a selection in 2012.

He previously said of his macabre hobby: "Blood plays the starring role in my work – sweat and tears are often waiting in the wings."

Mark Wilkinson, specialist at Sworders auctioneers, said: "At the time it was painted, Pete Doherty and Kate Moss were the ultimate tabloid newspaper fodder – she the super model, he the bad boy rock star.

"There was a lot of interest in Doherty's art at the time both because of who he was and his macabre choice of medium.

"We expect plenty of interest when it comes for sale."

The sale will take place on 11 February.
