Loose Women's Denise Welch has taken a swipe at Piers Morgan for his recent comments regarding American gymnast Simone Biles and her mental health.
Earlier this week, the Former GMB presenter shared his brutal opinions on the 24-year-old sports star and claimed she was using her mental health as an "excuse" for "poor performance" after she withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
But Piers' frank opinions did not sit well with Denise, 63, which lead her to air her thoughts on the presenter.
Sharing a screenshot of Pier's post on her Instagram, Denise captioned the pic: "Unbelievable. Does it not occur to this man that the last 2 yrs have been the toughest mentally on people the world over, regardless of what job or career they have. They may have been dealing with family isolation, bereavement, depression brought on by fear driven media!!!"
Denise Welch slams Piers Morgan for not mentioning Covid battle sooner
She added: "I've fought for mental health issues to be treated on a par with physical illness for 32 yrs and yet he constantly belittles those who speak out honestly about their struggle.
"We are all told yesterday that he ‘fought back’ against the worst illness he’s ever experienced with Covid but there are other serious illnesses that some people have been dealing with for bloody years and years!! You lay in bed sweating for a few days and now you’re well. So what???
Piers Morgan brands Team USA's Simone Biles a 'joke' as she pulls out of Olympics
"Why is Piers Morgan allowed to continually berate people who suffer mentally, particularly women? I hope no tv companies employ him if they ever intend to have a voice on mental health. Shocking."
On Wednesday Simone, 24, announced she will be removing herself from Tokyo games to focus on her mental health.
The athlete received her lowest Olympic vault score before she decided to step down.
Talking to reporters, Simone said: "After the performance I did, I just didn't want to go on.
Man Utd star Paul Pogba offers his support to US gymnast Simone Biles after Olympic exit
"I have to focus on my mental health. I just think mental health is more prevalent in sports right now.
"We have to protect our minds and our bodies and not just go out and do what the world wants us to do."
Piers, 56, who is known for his controversial views took Twitter to share his thoughts on Simone's withdraw soon after she made her announcement.
The Life Stories host said: "Are 'mental health issues' now the go-to excuse for any poor performance in elite sport? What a joke.
"Just admit you did badly, made mistakes, and will strive to do better next time. Kids need strong role models not this nonsense."
