Pop Idols Michelle McManus wows fans in plunging lilac frock at Highland Games

Michelle McManus says it was an "honour" to take on the role of chieftain at the Mallaig and Morar Highland Games.

The Pop Idol winner, who first shot to fame in 2003 after winning the second series of the talent show, looked totally different from her ITV days as she donned a plunging lilac dress and tartan shawl for the event.

A a fourth commented: "Looking gorgeous."

The organisers of the game said: "Well what can we say! What a wonderful Mallaig and Morar Games day 2022 from the beginning to the end. A huge heartfelt thank you our fabulous games Chieftain Michelle McManus.

"Everything was brilliant, from your arrival with the Fantastic Maad, the Mallaig Ardumachan and District Pipe Band.

"A very warming and welcoming opening speech to awarding our fantastic competitors with their trophies and medals. Your presence around the field was first class as was your beautiful rendition of the Wild Mountain Thyme.

"Thank you again from everyone at the Mallaig and Morar Highland Games."

Last month, the former Pop Idol winner made her comeback to stage for one night only for a performance at East Kilbride Village Theatre.

Michelle achieved national acclaim in 2004 when her debut album The Meaning of Love hit No3 in the UK Albums Chart, and she went on to found her own record label, McMannii Records.

She has also appeared as a panelist on Loose Women, along with presenting Scottish TV show The Hour alongside Tam Cowan.

With a one-woman show at the Edinburgh Festival and her own BBC Radio Scotland show, there’s little she hasn’t done.

Since then, she has gone on to welcome two children with her husband Jeff Nimmo – sons Nicholas and Harry.

Welcoming her son Nicholas in February this year, Michelle wrote on social media: "Goodbye January! Although I don't know how any other month this year could top you as you're the month we welcomed the newest addition to our family.

"Please say hello to Nicholas Peter Nimmo."

She added: "You are so perfect in every way and we're just so madly in love with you. Thank you for completing our family and our world. Love Mummy, daddy and Harry."
