Queen’s Brian May: ‘Freddie Mercury is ALWAYS with us, but I’m sad he’s not here’ – WATCH

Queen and Adam Lambert are now in Japan for four concerts starting this week, as part of their Rhapsody tour. And in the lead-up, guitarist Brian May has spoken of what Freddie Mercury would think of the band continuing today, as he remembers his dearly missed bandmate, friend and brother. Speaking with Japanese outlet Asahi Shimbun, the 72-year-old said: “Yes, it’s something we all feel, certainly Roger [Taylor] and I feel it, yes.”

May continued: “Sometimes when people ask you a question, we have a feeling we’d know what Freddie would say.

“It’s not because he was predictable, but we kind of know his unpredictability.

“And, of course, he was like a brother to us, so we know him very, very well.

“We created this whole scenario which is Queen; this whole genre, this whole oeuvre if you will of Queen music.”

The Queen guitarist said: “And it’s wonderful that people are now discovering it in even more detail now than they did in the past.

“So Freddie is always with us. He has to because he’s a co-creator.

“There are moments when I feel sad, of course, because he’s not here to enjoy it.

“But mostly I feel great joy that we had this experience and we had this wonderful spectrum of Queen music that we can still explore and communicate and share with a new audience. So it’s a good feeling I have about Freddie.”

Of course, another noticeable absent from Queen’s line-up is John Deacon.

A couple of years after completing the band’s final album Made In Heaven with Freddie’s vocals, the bassist retired.

Now 68-years-old, he lives a reclusive life out of the limelight and wasn’t involved in the Bohemian Rhapsody movie.

Yesterday, Brian May shared a picture of himself with Deacon and Taylor back in the day.

Queen and Adam Lambert will perform two shows this weekend in the Saitama Super Arena.

The team-up then head to Osaka’s Kyosera Dome on January 28 before a final show at the Nagoya Dome in Nagoya.

Queen’s Japanese fandom is particularly enthusiastic, with Bohemian Rhapsody being the highest-grossing movie of 2018 in the Land of the Rising Sun.

May wrote in a new post: “Very exciting returning to Japan.

“QUEEN’s relationship with the Japanese people has been extraordinary and enduring, and now enters yet another phase – post-Bohemian Rhapsody the movie. Both in Korea and Japan, its success has been monumental, more than we could have dreamed. “

“It’s given us a precious opportunity to make contact with a whole new generation of music fans, and I like to think that we can be a small part of global harmony and understanding.”
