Brian May’s latest micro-concert sees the Queen guitarist play with himself thanks to a recorded video. This time around the 71-year-old covered Lonnie Donegan’s blues track I’m Just A Rolling Stone. Across both videos, he said: “Experiment in old school style. Hey folks! Good to be back. Hope you’re all in good health and good spirits.”
May continued: “Some of you may be suffering a little from the lockdown blues and I have to say I probably have been too.
“But perhaps the best way to combat the blues is to play the blues.
“So I’m going to play something from my childhood which I didn’t know was the blues at the time, but Lonnie Donegan sure did.”
The guitarist then went on to cover the classic with himself on acoustic and electric guitar.”

Is there no limit to this man’s vanity ?!! Not content with duetting with @officialGaryBarlow, @Kerryellis79, three hundred #jamwithbri volunteers and a baked potato, he now has the effrontery to duet with himself !! Here’s an ancient and haunting Lonnie Donegan song. Conceived long before Bob Dylan’s fabulous “Like a Rolling Stone”, and a certain seminal English rock group, who may or may not have been inspired to name themselves after it, this song was one of the main reasons I followed the risky path into Life On The Road. For that is what this song is about. Hope you’ll forgive my low-tech multitracking !! Very touched by your comments on this post, dear folks – I don’t think I (or ‘we’ !) ever got such unanimous appreciation ! Well, thanks – you have cheered me up !! Maybe it’s because I blocked all the Drainers on the last post – now I just have you guys who are all mighty Gainers !! Who knew it was so easy ? Ha ha !! Maybe I should explain. My therapist and dear friend Russ Warner once told me that the secret of making your life feel right is to figure out who are the Gainers in your life and who are the Drainers. Who is giving you energy and who is taking it away ? Then you just get rid of the Drainers, and gather the Gainers around you. Job done ! OK ? Cheers – Bri

At the end of the performance, May said: “So thank you Lonnie Donegan.
“Always loved that song and I had the privilege and pleasure of performing it with him in the studio when we did a kind of comeback album for Lonnie.
“Elton played on it, Ringo Starr, Ray Cooper, a lot of great people.
“Lonnie was such a hero for me as a kid and I did get to know him very well and I got to say I loved him; he was amazing.”
