The Super Bowl halftime show often generates as much discussion and headlines as the football itself.

From Janet Jackson’s wardrobe mishaps to her brother Michael turning the break in play into a full-blown MJ concert, the interval entertainment at the Super Bowl creates an atmosphere unlike any other.

Though other sports have tried to follow suit with the idea of blending music into the sporting spectacle, none can hold their own against the level of star-power the Super Bowl halftime show brings in.

Ahead of tonight’s Super Bowl LV, it’s worth taking a look at who is set to rock the halftime slot, as well as finding out who will be belting out the national anthem before the tie.

Who is performing?

Canadian pop sensation The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, will take to the stage in front of more than 100 million television viewers. The singer has won three Grammy awards, five American Music Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards all by the age of 30.

He also boasts three number one albums in the USA, including his most recent body of work – After Hours, which features his latest smash-hit single Blinding Lights.

What time is the performance?

The Weeknd is set to take to the stage at around 8:30PM EST, meaning he will start at 1:30am UK time.

Who is singing the national anthem?

The national anthem, traditionally sung before the game, will be performed as a duet by GRAMMY-nominated artists Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church, who follow in the footsteps of Demi Lovato who sung The Star-Spangled-Banner last year.

There will be music preceding the national anthem, with another Grammy-award winning artist in H.E.R. set sing a rendition of ‘America The Beautiful’. Warren ‘WAWA’ Snipe, a deaf writer, rapper and performer will perform both songs in American Sign Language.

2020’s Super Bowl LIV saw Jennifer Lopez join forces with Shakira in Miami alongside special guests Bad Bunny and J Balvin.
