Sir Tom celebrated his 80th birthday this summer and told BBC Radio 2 that he has no intention of retiring anytime soon, saying: “I don’t want to stop! God has been good to me and my voice is still there. So as long as it’s there I wanna get up… singing live to people is the thing.”

The Welsh singer posted on Instagram at the time: “Wow 80 years young today! It’s a great feeling to hit this milestone.

“I’ve been blessed with so many extraordinary experiences and have had the privilege of meeting and working with outstanding, talented and inspiring people across many generations. It’s amazing when I think about it!

“To have a life in music, along with love, family, friends, and the most loyal fans throughout the years – who have allowed me to continue to record and tour the world for over fifty years, is truly an honour.”

Sir Tom will mainly tour the UK in June, with a few more dates set for July and August.

Announcing the rescheduled dates, the star said: “I’m really sorry to have to inform you that my shows scheduled for this Summer have had to be postponed until next year.

“As you most likely are aware, public performances are sadly not going forward as normal for just about everyone who works in music and entertainment. ⁣

“My team have been monitoring the UK government advice on organised gatherings and I now need to take this action to ensure the protection of fans, my crew and everyone who works in support of the shows.”

Sir Tom added: “It is also important to help ease the pressure on those working on the front line to fight this virus. You all know how much I love performing but everybody’s safety must come first. ⁣

“Behind the scenes, we’ve been working with local promoters to re-schedule all the shows from this summer as closely as possible. To make it easy, all tickets already purchased for this year will remain valid for the rescheduled shows in 2021.

“A full list of all rescheduled dates can be found on my website TomJones.com. Alternately, if you need a refund, please contact your point of purchase. ⁣In the meantime, please stay home, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all soon.⁣”
