US Strictly star Maksim Chmerkovskiy flees to Ukraine bomb shelter in Kyiv

Dancing With The Stars professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy has evacuated to a bomb shelter amid Russia ’s invasion of Ukraine.

The 42-year-old Ukrainian-American is currently trapped in Kyiv as Russia launches an attack on the country.

Providing further insight into his situation with his fans on Instagram, Maksim, who stars on the American version of Strictly Come Dancing, shared a video where he described what was currently happening.

While on screen, sirens could be heard in the background as Maksim revealed that he was on his way to a bomb shelter.

Begging Russia to end the war on Ukraine, the father-of-one said: "The world is standing up, I know how hopeless and helpless everyone is feeling.

"There is real, major life suffering going on."

The dancing pro also revealed that his friends have decided to hide in a basement as the tension in the country continues to rise.

However, he also disclosed that his pal's children were getting sick as there is currently no heat in the basement.

While shedding light on what was going on, Maksim explained: "[I will] do my best to keep you updated, I’m not a reporter, I’m just somebody who is just here, I’m stuck, that’s it.

"I’m not moving towards the border, there’s no way."

He added: "This is going to get really bad. Young men are signing up to go to f***ing war. This is very real. It’s extremely disturbing.

"Nobody is giving up. This is going to be very, very bad, this is going to escalate to extreme proportions."

The TV personality, who is married to Dancing With The Stars professional Peta, has left his family extremely concerned for his welfare.

On Thursday, as Russia launched airstrikes across Ukraine, Peta asked fans on social media to pray for her husband.

Sharing her heartfelt message she said: "Please pray for my husband Maks.

"I don’t usually ask these things from my social media network, however today is extremely hard and the next few days will be even harder."

With calamity taking place with both countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned world leaders that they will "face consequences greater than any in history" if they interfere.
