'90 Day Fiancé': Tania Maduro Shuts Down Syngin Colchester's Trauma — 'I Am Allowed to Get Frustrated'

When it comes to 90 Day Fiancé Season 7, fans have their heroes and villains picked by now. And so far, Tania Maduro has been falling largely in the villain camp, based on fan reactions to how she treats Syngin Colchester. One moment that really set fans off was when Syngin Colchester decided to dish about his traumatizing past working in the South African mines. Instead of letting Colchester get it off his chest, Tania Maduro seemed to simply shut him down. Since then, she’s defended herself, but fans are simply not having it.

Tania Maduro shuts down Syngin Colchester, defends herself

During a car ride after her return from a thirty-day retreat in Costa Rica, during which she left Syngin Colchester alone, Tania Maduro started asking him about work.

Colchester explained that he doesn’t have a work permit and that he doesn’t want to work under someone else anymore after his time in the South African mines. The 90 Day Fiancé star worked in the mines for seven years.

Colchester also discussed having seen friends get injured and die in the mines, obviously a traumatizing experience. Maduro ended up telling him that it happened “so long ago.” However, it could have been as recent as four years ago, given when Colchester stopped working in the mines and his age at the time of filming.

Tania Maduro defends her actions on ‘90 Day Fiancé’

Fans were quick to rally to Syngin Colchester’s defense. Many of them attacked Tania Maduro for seeming callous and uncaring towards Colchester following him opening up.

On Instagram, Maduro replied to such a comment with, “I hear you. But that was not the first time I heard that, at all. And though it may seem uncompassionate, it was my frustration of hearing that so many times, offering support, looking up therapists or other modes of healing, with none of them being taken up, ever. I learned that my past was affecting my life in some scenarios so I started steps long ago to work on that never-ending healing. My frustration was knowing that, feeling that, yet no actions to work on it. Mines were 8 years ago, and we dated about a year and a half before the show, and during that time I heard how much things would be worked on and changed.”

In another comment, the 90 Day Fiancé star wrote, “I did apologize after, but it also wasn’t my first time, and at some point, after I have listened, empathized, shared ways of dealing and healing with trauma, helping him to change his mindset from therapy being taboo to it being a good tool, to helping him look for therapists, there’s only so much I can do to support.I am human. And I am allowed to get frustrated.”

However, fans of 90 Day Fiancé aren’t totally buying Tania Maduro’s defenses for her behavior. In fact, some of them seem quite angry with the reality star’s treatment of Syngin Colchester.

One Reddit user wrote, “It only matters if bad things happen to her. She can’t see beyond her own thoughts and feelings.”

“On Sunday’s episode when Syngin opened up about working for SEVEN years in the mines I couldn’t believe how she acted. Especially while she talked about how he couldn’t/wouldn’t keep a job. I know seven years isn’t a huge number, but working in such dangerous and stressful conditions for any extended period of time is really difficult work. Then he mentions friends and coworkers losing their lives. So I’m sure in this time he saw the cycle of his friends dedicating their lives to their work then quickly disregarded and replaced because the companies value of dollar over life. Thus shaping his mentality about working to make someone else rich while he is miserable. Her whole issue with him ‘not holding a job long term’ is bullsh*t. Has she worked anywhere for seven years straight?” opined another user.

Another added, “Why can’t she ever just say ‘I messed up.’ We don’t need to always [need] a million reasons why she does what she does. Sometimes it’s possible to just apologize for being a b*tch and leave it at that.”
