Adil Ray accused of ‘lying’ by Trump supporter as GMB interview turns frosty

Good Morning Britain fans were left cringing while watching today's show, as a Donald Trump supporter lashed out at Adil Ray and accused him of "lying" during a tense debate.

Lawyer and Republican Party official Harmeet Dhillon appeared on the show ahead of November's presidential election, discussing President Trump's campaign with hosts Adil and Charlotte Hawkins.

However, things turned awkward when Adil raised the subject of comments Trump has made about Kamala Harris, who was recently unveiled as Joe Biden's running mate.

On Thursday, Trump claimed he heard on "social media" that Harris, who hails from California, could be ineligible to run for Vice President.

Adil wondered how, as a woman of colour, Harmeet felt comfortable supporting Trump's views in light of his remarks about Harris' eligibility.

He said Trump had been "questioning her citizenship basically, questioning whether she’s actually a true American".

Adil wondered: "Yourself, as a person of colour, taking the politics aside from all of that, doesn’t that make you feel a little bit uncomfortable?"

However, Harmeet shut Ail down and said: "The way you just put it is completely a lie.

"A reporter asked him a question and he disagreed with it. He did not say that was his position."

She went on: "Of course she is eligible. By comparison I was born in India, I am not eligible. These facts are clear and it does not matter one bit of difference here."

Harmeet then showed her disregard for the Democratic Party, adding: "Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are going to take this country in completely the wrong direction."

Over on Twitter, GMB viewers made it clear they found the interview hard to watch, with some claiming Adil and Charlotte had been "schooled".

One said: "Adil is getting torn to pieces by that American lady."

"@CharlotteHawkns @adilray Ohhhhhh that didn't go to plan did it hahaha. #schooled," added a second.

And a third chimed: "Adil should stick to comedy , he just got slaughtered on live TV in an interview."

While a fourth remarked: "This woman is rude #GMB."
