Ant and Dec issue update on Saturday Night Takeaway
Ant and Dec have fronted Saturday Night Takeaway for more than two decades, but they are taking a “bit of a breather” from the ITV programme.
The Geordie duo recently announced the 20th series will be the last one for “a little while”.
After telling their social media followers about the news, fans flocked to Twitter to share their theories about why Ant and Dec are stepping back from the show.
Many commented how the timing of Ant and Dec’s announcement came at the same time as This Morning hosts’ Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s alleged “feud” hitting the headlines.
Holly and Phil’s friendship has reportedly “cooled”, with the latter telling his followers recent weeks “haven’t been easy for either of us”.
Bixter commented: “Taking over from Schofield and Willoughby?”
Carol Vickery commented: “Maybe Ant and Dec will be taking over from Phil and Holly?”
Another posted: “They’re taking over from Phil and Holly on This Morning so won’t have time to make Takeaway anymore.”

Ant and Dec made the announcement on Thursday evening, saying: “Hi everyone, we’ve got some news for you, next year, in 2024, it will be our 20th series of Saturday Night Takeaway.
“We’ve got some very special look-backs planned as well as some very exciting new items.”
Dec added: “We’ve also decided that our 20th series will be our last one for a little while.
“The show takes up such a lot of our year, we just feel that we need a little bit of a breather and the show is going to take a little bit of a rest.”
