Netflix’s hit fantasy series came to an epic conclusion after six seasons this year, and Lucifer fans are eager to see what the show’s stellar cast does next. Best known as the simple yet lovable detective Dan Espinoza, Kevin Alejandro has already found his next iconic role in the ongoing series based on the wildly successful video game League of Legends, Arcane.
Arcane’s creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee spoke to the Express about how the Lucifer star was convinced to sign on.
Kevin stars as brilliant inventor Jayce in the nine-part animated series, which is being released in three-episode parts each week on Netflix.
After five years on the popular Biblical drama, the star is whisked away on a new adventure as his character helps uncover the secrets of arcane technology.
He teams with Hailee Steinfeld, the star of the upcoming Marvel series Hawkeye, as well as Ella Purnell and Katie Leung in the ongoing animated event.
Creators Christian and Alex recalled Kevin telling them what attracted him to the ambitious new video game adaptation.
“Kevin Alejandro, our Jayce actor, said that his son was a League player, and was like, ‘Dad, you have to do this,” Christian explained.
League of Legends has become one of the most successful game franchises of all time since the online multiplayer phenomenon launched in 2009.
The game has amassed a following of 115 million monthly players by 2021 and has also become the world’s most spectated e-sport.
The creators of the series revealed several members of the cast were already well aware of the game’s popularity when they signed on.
Christian continued: “There were definitely a few folks who played League themselves.
“But I think we had a lot of people who joined the project because their little brother or sister would hear about it.”
Video game adaptations have been tricky to nail down in the past, and many attempted franchises have had sequels cancelled and projects stuck in production hell for years.

Thankfully, this wasn’t the case with Arcane, which has already become a surprise hit for Netflix after the release of the first three episodes.
Co-creator went on to explain how the game’s popularity, which has now lasted well over a decade, encouraged the stars to treat the project seriously.
He continued: “League has luckily reached this point of success where usually you know someone among your friends and family who have at least heard about it.
“And I think that actually it really helped get some people on board because they were able to understand how much of an impact this game has had on so many peoples’ lives.”
The series also made efforts to include much of the games’ original voice cast, including JB Blanc returning for two key roles, Dave B Mitchell, Abigail Marlowe and Mara Junot.
Christian added: “There is definitely a family of voice acting talent that has been part of the League of Legends world who were happy to find ways to bring them back in Arcane.”
Both creators are eager to expand the League of Legends universe in animation further, so fans will get a sense of where the journey is headed once the final three episodes of Arcane are released.
Arcane: Act III will be released on Saturday, November 20 on Netflix.
