The latest episode of Strictly Come Dancing saw Katie McGlynn and her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez fail to wow the judges with their performance, which resulted in their elimination. With past speculation about tension in their pairing, Gorka was awkwardly silent when Katie told viewers they’d remain friends.

Following their elimination from the BBC dance competition, Katie and Gorka sat down with presenter Rylan Clark for the latest instalment of Strictly It Takes Two.

After he asked how they were feeling after their unexpected departure.

Katie responded: “We’re alright, we’re just sad because it means we can’t be rehearsing together, it means our journey’s ended but we’re still going to stay friends.”

As she replied, she looked over at Gorka who awkwardly smiled and appeared to sarcastically nod.

This made Katie burst into laughter before Rylan commented: “That didn’t look too convincing.”

To which Gorka replied: “Yes of course,” in an attempt to convince viewers.

Katie continued: “He lives in Manchester, I live in Manchester, we’ve already set up a dinner date. We’re gonna catch up, we’ve got mutual friends so we’re going to stay in touch.”

After failing to impress the judges with their rendition of the American Smooth to Dr John’s version of Cruella De Vil during movie week, the pair landed in the dance-off – for the second week in a row.

This time they were forced to face comedian Judi Love and her dance partner Graziano Di Prima.

After their final performance, three out four judges voted to keep Judi in the competition, with Shirley Ballas’ vote ultimately eliminating the pair.

Katie’s admission claiming she and Gorka would remain friends outside of Strictly failed to convince viewers who had accused the two of having tensions.

Throughout their participation, fans have routinely claimed they had “no chemistry” and suggested they didn’t get on.

Carrie was one viewer who took to Twitter to share her opinion on their performance and claimed: “Seems to be no connection between Kaite and Gorka at all.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the couple admitted they faced difficulties scheduling rehearsal time as Katie was filming for Hollyoaks.

After being spotted on set in Liverpool last week, Gorka remarked the pair had “no hours to train” ahead of their performance.

He told her: “If you achieve what you do with no experience and no hours to train, I can’t wait to see the rest.”

Despite the claims from viewers, Katie took to Instagram to dispel the rumours of a potential rift between her and Gorka.

The actress wrote: “I’ve loved every second of rehearsals with @gorka_marquez and performing each week!”

I’m really gutted that my time on the show has come to an end so soon, I feel like I had so much more to give and really wanted to carry on pushing myself and learning from the professionals that I am absolutely in awe of,” she concluded.

After their exit, Gorka apologised to Katie for not being able to take her further in the competition, under her Instagram post he commented: “I’m so proud of you and your work! You have been a joy to work with, thank you for these three weeks full of laughs and jokes.

He added: “Thanks for make this strictly series so special! Sorry I couldn’t make it longer for you!”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
