THE husband of Great British Bakeoff winner Candice Brown said her cheeky kiss with judge Paul Hollywood put pressure on their marriage.
The GBBO winner announced yesterday that she and her husband Liam Macauley had decided to separate, less than two years after they got married.
Liam has also moved out of the flat they shared above her pub.
He opened up and revealed the 'pressure of fame' lead to them splitting up.
"There is nobody else involved. We have just sadly decided it wasn't working," he told the Daily Mail.
He said he found it difficult to go from his life as a tree surgeon to suddenly being with a massive TV celebrity.
Liam also revealed exactly what impact that Paul Hollywood kiss had on their relationship, which happened days after the got engaged in 2017 after five years of dating.
He said: "I'd not long asked Candice to marry me and I had to read reports that my new fiancée was seen kissing Hollywood and getting close to him.
"That was just a kiss on her cheek and there was nothing else to it. But we had only been engaged a few days. It was a lot to have to deal with."
After he moved out of their pub flat in Milton Keynes, Liam escaped on a sunny holiday to Greece.
"My wife is a lovely woman and a wonderful human being and I could never find anything detrimental to say about her," he explained.
"I am not the famous one, no one is interested in me. I am a tree surgeon from Scotland and I make my own living."
Liam also accused his wife's fame of dredging up his criminal past.
Media reported on his 16-month jail stint after he was arrested for drug dealing, a year before him met Candice.
The 35-year-old's split earlier this year from Liam comes just months after she opened up about battling depression and admitting she'd thought about self-harm.
The telly star admitted that baking had helped her deal with her mental health issues along with group therapy.
But in an emotional interview, which saw her break down in tears, the former PE teacher said: “I suffer with clinical depression, chronic phobia and PTSD."
“It’s hard and people don’t realise, it’s a real battle. People might be like ‘Oh she’s jumping on the bandwagon’ but they’ve got no idea what has been going on in my brain for the past five or six years."
“It’s been s***, sometimes I get angry and it’s probably going to be with me forever. When it got really bad, baking was what I would do.”
Breaking the news of her marriage breakdown, her agent told the Mirror: “I can confirm Candice and Liam separated earlier this year."
Candice put on a brave face today as she appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about restaurants taking deposits to ensure people turn up for their bookings.
The pub owner revealed she charges £20 per person for a dinner reservation to keep her business afloat in the time of the coronavirus pandemic.
Candice said on the show: "It's common courtesy just to call and cancel if you can't make a booking."
She later hosted a bake-along to raise funds and awareness for Coppafeel, to help women check their breasts for lumps and to prevent breast cancer.
But she also admitted "think I’m going to eat a lot of biscuits today", a sign that the split might be taking its toll.
She also 'liked’ and shared a post by artist and author Charles Mackesy, which reads: “Sometimes your mind plays tricks on you. It can tell you you’re no good, that it’s hopeless.”
In a 2016 interview with Hello! Candice said: “Liam is my biggest support. He tells me every day that he's so proud of me.”
In October 2017 Candice confirmed they had got engaged after rumours swirled for months that they were heading down the aisle.
Reflecting on the proposal, Candice explained: "I get emotional. Because it's been such an amazing year. I feel very lucky.
"I've had such incredible opportunities – GBBO opened so many doors – and to top it off he puts a ring on it."
