BBC Breakfast presenter Jon Kay suggested his co-star Carol Kirkwood wasn't doing her job properly in joking she hadn't checked the forecast.

BBC weather star Carol appeared live from a gorgeous sunflower field in Alderton on Monday morning (July 25), but unfortunately she was forced to withstand the rain whilst delivering her report.

The Scottish star could be seen kitted out in a pink hoodie which was pulled up over her head to protect her from getting drenched in the rainy conditions.

But show host Jon Kay couldn't help levelling a cheeky dig at his poor colleague right before her live report.

His co-host Sally Nugent said: "We have sent Carol out to the most beautiful location. Unfortunately, we didn't quite fix the weather for her. Morning, Carol."

Jon quipped: "Have you checked the forecast, Carol?"

Checking the forecast is, of course, the key part of her role as a weather presenter given she needs to go live to tell the nation about what weather conditions to expect.

Luckily for Jon, Carol clearly saw the funny side of the joke as she burst out laughing.

She replied: "You're not wrong, both!"

The forecaster didn't let the rainy conditions affect her famously friendly weather segment as she told viewers about the sunflowers.

She explained the huge yellow flowers were planted back in April following the crisis in Ukraine.

Carol recently admitted she "ruined" her fiancée Steve's proposal as she thought he was joking when he popped the question.

Speaking to The One Show, she told of how Steve got down on one knee by a river, but she only thought he was having a laugh.

Carol said: "He took me by surprise. We went for a picnic down by the river and we were just sitting there and he was just fumbling a bit.

"I thought 'What's the matter with you?', and the next thing, he's on his knee and he had the ring and he proposed, but I thought he was joking. I ruined it!"
