BGT's Paddy and Nicko earn golden buzzer from David Walliams

Paddy and Nicko were awarded the golden buzzer from judge David Walliams on the third episode of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

The 85-year-old dancer and partner Nicko previously finished ninth when they entered Britain’s Got Talent back in 2014, but the pair have been sent straight through to the final following their latest salsa routine.

After the pair danced away on Champions to a standing ovation, David Walliams said: ‘There are very few acts you can watch with a smile on your face and tears in your eyes.

‘This is one of the most joyous, most beautiful, most life-affirming acts we’ve ever had on Britain’s Got Talent.

‘So let’s not mess about. Let’s do this for everybody here.’

David rushed around the desk to hit the golden buzzer, sparking a shower of confetti and a particularly grateful Paddy and Nicko.

Speaking about the buzzer, Paddy said: ‘Just incredible. David, thank you so much. David is a very special name to me, it was my husband’s name, thank you so much.’

Some viewers, however, were quite surprised by David’s golden buzzer choice, with many suggesting it was a ‘waste’ of the buzzer..

Giving her critique, Alesha Dixon said: ‘For me, Paddy and Nicko, you are already champions in my eyes because people love you, we adore you, we respect you, the relationship is gorgeous and I can’t wait to see you in the final.’

Asked her secret to a long life, Paddy said: ‘Well I eat lots of chocolate, I have condensed milk in the morning, and sugar in my coffee.’

Paddy and Nicko follow previous golden buzzer acts Kseniya Simonova, chosen by Amanda Holden, and Alexa Lauenburger, chosen by Ant and Dec.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions continues next Saturday on ITV.
