Bill Bailey details ‘problem’ with Charleston ahead of Strictly Come Dancing semi-final

Strictly: Bill Bailey says he has a ‘problem’ with coordination

Strictly Come Dancing is heating up with five couples remaining in the competition. On Saturday night they will fight it out for a place in the grand final. One star who didn’t think they’d make it this far is Bill Bailey and he has hinted he may not make it to the final week as he spoke about his trouble learning two routines this week.

In training footage shown on It Takes Two this week, the comedian could be seen struggling with the steps for the Charleston.

Bill remarked: “The Charleston requires a degree of coordination, which I have a problem with.”

“Bill’s twists and swivels are…yeah,” Oti added.

“It’s like another dance. We still have a long way to go.”

Training footage shows Oti shouting “Bill!” as he practises the steps ahead of Saturday’s semi-final.

Bill explained: “It takes a while to get it. But I think I’m nearly there.”

He was then heard telling Oti he needed a sip of coffee and a short break from training.

The footage shown came after Oti revealed Bill refuses to tell her when he is in pain or tired from rehearsals.

Speaking on It Takes Two, she explained: “I constantly ask him, and now I know what he means when he answers me and has pain in the knees or the legs or the foot or the toes, he says they fall asleep.

“I don’t know if I believe that yet. But he would never tell me, I would have to hear it from physio or someone like that. He never says he’s tired.”

She continued: “He never says anything that’s the thing.

“So when I say ‘Are you sure you don’t need physio?’ he goes ’No, no, no.’ And I go ‘Okay, I’m going to force you to go get checked.’”

“He never gets tired, for the last two weeks he’s been out-dancing me,” Oti remarked.

“[I say] ‘I need to go home’ and I love that. He has this will, he is really putting in the passion of the hours.”

This week, Bill will be performing the Tango to Metallica’s Enter Sandman as well as the Charleston.

While he may not be feeling confident about the routines, he is still frontrunner to win the series.

It is now a two-horse race between Bill who has odds of 5/4 and HRVY who has chalked up odds of 6/4 to lift the Glitterball.

Jamie Laing remains clear favourite to be sent packing this weekend at odds of 1/3, with Maisie Smith and Ranvir Singh 6/1 apiece in that respective market.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Bill and HRVY have pulled away from the chasing pack and it looks as though the pair will go head-to-head in the race for this year’s Glitterball Trophy.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7pm.
