Quizzing the director about the hit comedy show, Gary asked: "What’s happening on the telly show? You were telling me something about Blackadder?

Richard replied: "God I’m really nervous about saying this but…"

Gary then jokingly chimed: "It’s okay, no one’s listening!"

"For the first time in 20 years, Baldrick is going to be giving some kind of performance," the writer and co-creator of the show teased.

He continued: "We’re just conspiring about it now, so I think there’s going to be a marvellous, turnip-based thing with Tony Robinson now back in action, so I’m excited about that."

However when asked if Rowan, who played protagonist Edmund Blackadder, would also appear on the show, Richard confirmed that he won't be involved.

Laughing he said: "No. Rowan’s far too serious to do any of that!"

Sharing more on what fans can expect from the upcoming Red Nose Day sketches, Richard told the presenter that "things are looking up".

He added: "We got this amazing Ghosts with Kylie Minogue that's going to be fantastic and we're actually going to South Africa to do our own Love Island sketch which is fabulous as well.

"It's going to be a very good night."

BBC comedy series Blackadder aired from 1983 to 1989 and quickly became a fan favourite.

The popular show had 24 episodes and included three specials starring a multitude of famous actors including Stephen Fry, Tim McInnerny and Hugh Laurie.

In 2022, both Rowan and Tony discussed the possibility of a Blackadder return.

Rowan said it "certainly" wasn't "impossible" before stating: "That's about a optimistic as I can be."

He added: "I’d rather not speculate on when it could be set," he told Radio Times. "But Blackadder represented the creative energy we all had in the '80s. To try to replicate that 30 years on wouldn’t be easy."

Meanwhile, Tony later told RadioTimes.com: "Well, what Rowan has always said to me is if there was to be another Blackadder it shouldn’t necessarily be another six-part television series. We should find another guise for it, another way of doing it."
